to all newbies ,please please read this and please please read all existing thread instead of creating thread wiht title like" help". please make it informative naman. so we can make it a main thread and source of info, and to others why dont you just delete your post if you did not receive any reply meaning nobody is interested.
to those who wants to migrate , lets start using the english language properly and refrain from using text language like "pede" . we are educated professionals aren't we not? write and act as one then. |

I agree with you. It's time to compose proper English. Remember you will be going to an English speaking nation and you will be talking and writing a lot in your job, school, interviews, etc... No more shortcut or text like spelling. Imagine if you are applying for a job or creating a report and because you are so use to writing text codes, you "MIGHT" end up inserting words that will come back and haunt you. Do not worry about wrong spelling or wrong grammar at this time - practice will help and practice a lot. Moreover, this forum is a good way to practice writing in English. So to all "Kababayans", let's follow Margie's lead.

Margie,
Forgive me but I just need to get this off my chest.
Lighten up! You sound as if you're one of the immigration officer. This forum aims to share information as well as to guide those who want to migrate to New Zealand in a friendly manner. Migrating to another country is already a tough task without someone slamming the door at them. People ask questions (no matter how dumb it is) in this forum so they can get better perspective of the task of migrating and sometimes to get relief from the agony of waiting for results.
Why, you even sounded like a mother superior in a convent. I read one of your post and I have to say, you weren't very nice to that fellow inquiring about fruit picking job.I figure from the way you wrote you're post that you're a quite an educated indivudual but please don't expect everybody to be on the same level as you are. some forum readers are low, some are high in terms of intellect. But we are all after the same thing...... information
The bottom line is BE NICE and BE HUMBLE. |

I agree with langdon.
I think the only way to prevent this miscommunication to happen again is to put this topic into "sticky" as what JPE did so that everytime a newbie enter this forum they can see right away a good topic at the topmost of the page to start with.
i dont know how to put this thing into "sticky"
anybody can help us out?
We are known all over the the world to be helpful and courteous, let's keep it that way!! |

i apologize if i sounded high and mighty. that's not the intention at all. sometimes, some people need shaking so they can wake up and be more aggressive. i appreciate the reaction, its better than no reaction at all.
reality is, the world outside specially in the west is totally different from what we're use to. you'll know that humbleness doesnt work. it will be better for you if you are proud and aggressive as they are. i speak of my 10 years experience of working with all different nationalities but mainly americans. its sad to note that we filipinos, are not proud as a race. and they are. maybe we are, but we just keep it a secret . we are intelligent and hardworking kind, but in general we tend to get away from a fight. we are just not confrontational by nature so we just tend to "make pasensiya para tapos na" .of course there are exceptions, those are the more respected ones. we are really good , you know we just need to communicate well and really believe in ourselves and if your immigrating you need to believe in yourself and be self reliant (reading the info is one its there already ).its better if we start now.
regarding my remarks about fruitpicking, i did say i dont mean to look down on it per se as a job(read the post again), but if you are migrating as a skilled person then you need to believe that you are, if you say you are for you need to prove you are. i might even enjoy doing that myself, but its not the way and the right attitude to get to your goal.as one have even added that it might even jeopardize others' application.
i sincerely hope that having the mother superior attitude, and being strict and hard , in my own little way i was able to help some people . if you were hurt and you fought back by really reading and getting all the info rather than just asking. then its all worth it. just one person getting mad and being challenged by teaching himself. its a good start. even if your cursing me while reading.
as you've said we are all here to help each other, its just that someways are different than others but it does not make it wrong, does it? some can be friendly some can be strict as a mother superior, but both loves you just the same. i excert effort and spend time to reply. the keyword here is excert.
thats better than not doing anything at all. either way you got help.
we are immigrants to be, we cant be fainthearted,
sensitive, dependent, . we need to be self reliant aggressive, courageous , a self-starter and of course hardworking.there's just too big a job ahead!
margie castro
ps. to langdon, i sincerely appreciate your post.
no hurt feelings.i wish you the best! |

Hi Mother Margie (joke!)
I'm an avid reader here... I browsed almost all the posts but I didn't get to see this one though earlier on, maybe it was way down the threads. I tried asking someone thru PM on a query I had in mind, to no avail. But it's okay, I found a lot of helpful insights here apart from doing research about the different facets of NZ...
To the new members, read as much as you can in the NZ immigration website. You'd be amazed that most answers are already there. Download guides and forms to understand every detail of the process. I think this forum acts more of a support group for we all have the same "dreams". It also aims to provide helpful answers for "informed" clarifications.
If you have specific questions, Look for posts with the "most replies" and the "most viewed" related to your query as this would appear as the FAQ's of the forum. There are people who had the same questions as yours most probably. Post a reply if you have a similar question on the same thread.[Read on NZ's local/national news scene as well (politics, biz, economics)and the industry of your expertise that you are to get into in NZ, I believe this would help us all expectants of the ITA]
For the veterans around, patience and understanding is a much needed virtue for us "newbies"(that includes me ).
