Hi: My wife is taking up caregiver course here in the Philippines and she will be graduating in January.Are caregivers in demand in NZ?We are planning to migrate to NZ but don't know what we should do first.I am working presently in a government owned and controlled corporation (water utilities) for seven years.My first five years, as a clerk processor with apprenticeship as a plumber and then as a transport dispatcher to date.We have two kids; a 14 year old girl and an 8 year old boy.My brother and his family are all NZ citizens for almost seven years but he decided to work in HK bringing along his wife and kids since 2000.He owns two residential properties in Auckland NZ which he visits once in a while.My brother told me that he cannot petition me coz as a rule he must have at least three consecutive years of residency there.Does anybody can help me on how to work things out?

Hi Koji, I'm in the same position as you are. I'm not really sure if what your brother has said is necessarily the case but I would suggest that you check out the nz immigration site. The one thing that I'm certain of is that to be eligible you must have no other siblings or parents who are living lawfully and permanently in the same country in which you are living lawfully and permanently. With your experience and qualifications maybe you could try the SMC route. Goodluck!
