Hi Carlo,
for whatever it's worth, dont engage the services of INS (immigration network services) in Makati. They do not know how to process papers in NZ.

Carlo, You can lodge your application on line its much cheaper than having an agent. Visit www.immigration.govt.nz for more info.

Carlo, i agree with Chit. Take her advice..it is certainly cheaper and faster to apply via internet by yourself. If you're going to engage an agent you'll be required to take IELTS which is another cost for you to shoulder. Agents are there to milk you of your money, you will all the hard work and what they do is just collate your documents for them to lodge to NZIS. Once you engaged an agent, you'll get tied up with them (at cost of US$5,000.00???? - is this now the going rate in Manila).
My family and I are now in Wellington. Post your queries here and I might help you keep things going. One advice, if you have lodged your EOI, ITA, or WTR..don't pester your visa officer by following up too often. Just let your vo do her/his job..these vo's are very professional based on my experience. |

Hi Pra,
Do you really think I should just apply on my own and not use an agent? I asked about an agent because I am very busy at work and wanted someone else to do this stuff for me.
I haven't checked the site chit gave but will it take alot of time to do it on your own? Thanks.
Regards

Hi Pra!
It's a pleasant surprise to see your post in this thread. I use to monitor your other posts in the WTR thread especially the CFO issue. Anway, congrats to your new life in Wellington. We are still waiting for our visas and meanwhile my wife and I are still debating whether to choose Wellington or Christchurch. Hope you could share your first hand experience in Wellington. I also have a few questions if you don't mind, pre-departure issues like what's the max kilos/load for your baggage per person on plane? And if we bring personal stuffs and send them through freight, tax exempt din ba? I read that only those with PR visa are given this privilege, applicable din ba ito sa WTR visa?
I agree with your advise about not making kulit to the v.o. In our case, we do so only when it's absolutely necessary and so far, very accomodating and pleasant naman cya. It's really important to practice cross-cultural sensitivity and not lose one's balance; afterall, we've waited for less than two years to reach this stage, so a few weeks more of waiting won't hurt!

hi
you may want to ask this firm, the IOM
"international organization for migration" which I think is an arm of the united nations, they do services for canada and australia but not sure if they also do it for new zealand. Their fee is only minimal like P10k, P2k for the assessment and 8k I think for documents check and submission.
Their office is in citibank towers. they have a website which includes phone details.
disclaimer: I havnt used this agent and don't have a clue about their services, but the fact that it's somehow connected with the UN makes me think it's legit. |

Carlo,
I did it for just a couple of weekends; actually about a month since I was working then. Most VOs appreciate applicants that do the processing thing by themselves. Good luck!
lyzander,
We are here in Wellington for just 16 days and it's quite an experience. We have Filipino friends now and most pinoys here very kind and warm. They helped us get things started at once; helping us find a flat, letting us borrow some of their household stuff, etc. Our friends say Wellington is much better than Christchurch..there are some pinoys who had bad experience in Christchurch concerning racial discrimination. Wellington is home to most European migrants; it is a windy city, though. Cost of living is lower perhaps than Christchurch and certainly with Auckland.
We took the Manila-Sydney-Wellington Quantas flight. If you're going to be booked on this airline, take the electronic ticket; the airline will give you 40 kgs (total weight) check-in baggage + 7kg hand-carried baggage for each passenger (irrespective of age). But check the weight of each of your check-in luggages it should not exceed 32kgs otherwise you will have to repack any of these at the airport.
Don't bring any aquatic and agricultural products, NZ is very strict about these items. If you bring some goodies, make sure these are processed ones and properly packed/labelled. Don't bring soiled shoes. Declare everything..even though you are sure that the things you're bringing in are legal. The customs guys will really appreciate this--Kiwis are into "Honesty is the very best policy." Ok, all of your stuff are tax free provided these are used things..so remove the packaging, price tags, etc. so that these will be really personal/used items (especially the electronic ones).
I hope these help you a bit. Good luck and see you sometime if you're in Wellington.
Maui,
If you have your ITA package, I'll introduce you to someone here in Wellington who have been helping lots of Filipinos make their first step. I have to let her know first of your intention, though. |

Pra,
Tnx for the information. Ya, I hope we could see you in Wellington soon. My next move is to research about job opportunities in Wellington, that is the clincher that will make us finally decide to go there. Bye for now and hope you continue your sharings to our kababayans who need help and info.
