Hi guys,

I've been following this forum for a couple of weeks and I just want to share what a friend got from his VO regarding the ever-elusive visas that we're all hoping to attain. Look at item #7.

Frequently Asked Questions Work to Residence

1. How long until the visas are issued following receipt of the WTR application? When can I expect our visas to be approve and sent back to us?
The final approval and issuance of the visa is subject to all verifications completed. The evidence you have submitted with the Work-To-Residence visa application will be reviewed. The time it would take to reach the stage where we would be issuing the visas would depend on all verifications completed and all policy requirements met.

2. Since we will be receiving a work visa will there be a separate payment for my children’s student/visitor visas?
The only fee payable for the Work-To-Residence visa application is the Migrant Levy fee. There is no additional fee for your children's student visas or partner's work visa.

3. How many months will be given to the applicant to leave his country for New Zealand should his/her Application for Work to Residency is accepted?
The Work-To-Residence Visa is valid for 2 years from the date the visa is issued. Therefore, it is advisable that you travel to NZ within the validity of the visa. Please note that in order to meet the residency policy requirements you need to be in skilled employment for at least 3 months within the 2 year deferral period.

4. In case the NZQA Assessment Result and/or requested IELTS test result will not be released in due time and I will not be able to lodge my Application for Work to Residence Visa before the due date, will I be given an extension?
Please submit all documents and information required on or before the due date. If you are unable to submit any of the requested documents (e.g. NZQA report) within the due date, then you must state the reasons why you are unable to do so and outline your attempts at obtaining the documents. In addition, you need to provide evidence to support your claim. Once we receive your WTR application and supporting documents, then we will review them and determine if an extension can be granted.

5. What is the Migrant Levy?
Please kindly refer to page 28 of the Application for Residence Guide which we have included in the invitation-to-apply package.

6. What evidence of funds can I submit to your office?
The evidence to show that you have sufficient funds may include your bank book or bank statements for the last 3 months etc.

7. Will there be a limit for the time and duration of stay in New Zealand under the Work-To-Residence (WTR) visa?
Please note that the WTR outcome following the second tier interview is a deferral of your residency application for up to 2 years. If issued a WTR visa you are given an opportunity to go to NZ to find skilled employment within the 2 year deferral period. An officer in NZ will keep in touch with you within the 2 years to assess if you have met the requirements of the SMC residency policy. The WTR visa is valid for 2 years from the date of issuance. It is up to you when you want to go to NZ, but keep in mind that you have 2 years to satisfy the requirements of the policy (i.e. find skilled employment).

8. Have you received my WTR application?
We have received the application and supporting papers you have submitted. The information you've given will be considered and approval of your WTR visa(s) will be subject to all pending verifications returning clear and all policy requirements met.

7. Would there be different visas given prior and after arrival at NZ? (Applies to Philippine applicants only!!!!)
It is our understanding that according to Philippines laws, citizens of the Philippines are allowed to leave their country on a work visa provided that an employer in the destination country is stated on the visa. Since you do not have a job offer in NZ, then we can only issue you a Visitor Visa to allow you to travel to NZ. Once in NZ, you must report to an NZIS branch (details to be provided in the WTR approval letter) so that you can be granted a WTR permit. Please note that the 2 year deferral period starts from the date the Visitor Visa is issued, not from the date the WTR permit is granted.

Please note that if you wish to submit original documents, you must also submit photocopies of the documents and arrange them in order. Otherwise, you can submit certified true copies which we will not return.
