| I would be interested to learn of Interesting places to visit in both North and South Island with tourist routes, although I will have own transport and would like to sightsee independently. I will be arriving in Auckland and will be travelling to Palmeston North to visit family. I want to be able to see the interesting sights on the way. Will be grateful for any information. |

Hi Pauline, writing an article on where to visit is on my todo list. The below are my favorite places in both islands.
North Island: The Bay of Islands, The Coromandel, Tongariro National Park (National Park on below map in the middle), Rotorua.

South Island: Nelson lakes (Lake Rotoiti on map), Abel Tasman National Park (Coast between Motueka and Takaha on map), Arthurs Pass (between Greymouth and Christchurch), Kaikoura, The whole of the West Coast and Fiordland (Milford Sounds), Queenstown, Mt Cook and the Catlins (Owaka on map below Dunedin).

I've put together a website of the trip my wife and I took to NZ 2 years ago. It could be of help to you in deciding what parts you'd like to see.
Have a great trip.
