I'm looking for a definitive list of the provincial regions of NZ, e.g. Otago, Southland, West Coast etc. Does anyone know if the one on wikipedia at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regions_of_New_Zealand is accurate/up to date. I'd also like to know where the actual provincial boundaries are, and that seems more of a problem. The reason I ask is that I like to populate all my photographs with metadata, including Location, City/Region, State/Province, Country. Very important when you have a very large photographic database. The provincial boundaries are shown on Google Maps. Are these accurate? They "seem" accurate in the sense that the boundaries tend to follow the major drainage lines (along the ridges of the southern alps for example), and according to wikipedia those bondaries came about in 1989 based on the major drainage divides. I'm wondering where Google Maps get that detailed information from. But then Google Maps provincial boundaries don't seem accruate. As an example, Google Maps shows the Routeburn Track as entirely in West Coast Region, which I'm pretty sure is incorrect. The DOC say the Routeburn Track spans Otago and Southland. So in addition to the list of the provinces does anyone know of a detailed map showing the provincial boundaries.
