Hi everyone. I'm Chu from Bulacan Philippines. I have few queries to ask regarding immigrating to NZ with Accountant profession.
A little bit of background: I'm a certified public accountant here in the Phils with 4 years of work experience in accounting field. I graduated in a school not listed as exempt in NZQA. Sadly, I had my degree pre-assessed (by NZQA) last month and the result was equivalent to level 5 only in NZQF Anyway, I have a live-in partner who's brother is in NZ with PR for 10 years now. My partner is an Industrial Engineer by profession with less than 2 years of work experience.
Here are my questions:
1. Assuming we'll claim that our degree was taught entirely in english, our plan is to lodge our EOI this month then later take IELTS (assuming we'll be selected in the pool) to back-up our claim in English proficiency. Do you think it's possible to lodge our EOI application without having the IELTS first? Is there anyone in this forum who done this?
2. Someone told me that Accountant occupation in NZ requires membership in there local Accounting Bodies, does it mean that I can't use my profession or won't be able to find job in accounting field in NZ?
can somebody enlighten me on this please... thanks! |

If I were in your shoes, the first question you need to discuss with your partner (assuming you have both freely agreed to migrate to NZ) is "who between us has the best chances in terms of educational attainment, work experience and occupation in the skills shortage list, of securing a skilled job in the current economy in NZ?" The one with the best chance is the principal applicant, the other one the secondary applicant.
You take IELTS once your assigned visa officer requests so. In the meantime, try to look for free IELTS exercises loitering about in the internet.
If registration is essential for you to practice your occupation then yes, you need to register before anyone can hire you.
Mind you, I did have accountant friends who were granted residency without registration, but they were 1) employed in a big 4 company (ey, pwc, kpmg and delloite) or a large multinational company in the Philippines; or 2) were under the direct hire policy or secured a 2 year WTR visa (yes, many years ago, the work visa was 2 years, now it is only 9 months) and/or 3) received residency before the recession. I am not an accountant so don't rely on my observations. Try to research some more. All the best. |

Thanks levi for the quick response..
Regarding on who's who would be the best "principal and/or secondary applicant", i think it would be practical if i'll be the former since i got more years of job experience than him (less than 2 years).
Anyway, we still got concerns about my qualifications and medical history. As I've mentioned, my qualification was pre-assessed by NZQA as equivalent to level 5 in their Qualification Framework. Which means my degree is not considered as a bachelor degree in NZ rather it's only an Accounting Diploma. And with that level i can still claim for 50 points, right? But what skill occupation should i'll use when lodging our EOI? Accountant or a lower accounting-related occupation?
About my medical history, i was diagnosed 7 years ago with PTB (tuberculosis) but i undergone 6 months medications in that same year. All i got right now is a "lung scar" which is very common to people with history of that disease.
I believe INZ is very strict when it comes to infectious disease esp PTB. Do you think this will create problem in our application? In the EOI form (electronic) there's this part that you'll have to answer if you had an infectious disease history. Do you think it would be better if i'll answer no? I'll just provide a medical certification from an INZ accredited Pulmonologist later if they'll question my xray during the ITA stage (assuming we'll be selected from the pool). Do you think it's okay?
can somebody enlighten me on this please... thanks! |

I think your partner should apply. If meron sya experience sa transport industry, maganda prospect nya dito.baka kasi magkaroon ng negative effect ang nzqa result mo. wag muna kayo mag ielts, get a certificate from your college na english ang medium of instruction, bakla tanggapin na yun ng visa officer.
I know 2 CPAs sa pinas na andito sa nz. they didnt bother na magpa register coz according to one of them, kelangan pa ulit sila mag aral additional 2 years ata then work experience as accounting technician for 2 more years before ka pwede mag apply ng membership PLUS dapat accountant ang title mo sa work para matanggap ka. |

Wala po syang experience sa transport industry since industrial engineer ang course nya. Meron po syang 1 year and 4 months experience sa industry na relevant ng course nya (production engineer- manufacturing industry). He's currently working for 1 year na in a Customs Brokerage company which is not related to his previous work experience. Not an engineering job either. Pwede po ba yun? Ano po ang pinkabest gawin?Add muna experience partner ko then saka kami mgapply him as principal applicant then secondary lang ako? |

I still think mahirapan kayo if ikaw ang mag apply. nope, hindi accounting related ang work nung kilala ko na cpa sa pinas. pero IT ang husband nya kaya sila PR.
Check the list ulit ng skilled jobs and yung pinaka malapit siguro ang applyan mo or ng partner mo. goodluck! |
