Oh my God! Finally! Our long wait is (almost) over... Just received an email from NZIS BKK about the visa approval. We haven't receive the passports yet but this news is a sure wham! If not for the credit card transaction snag (re-payment of migrant levy), it should have been smooth sailing (to think that we call up Citibank on a monthly basis to remind them of an impending charge from NZIS!). Anyway the waiting and the guessing games are (almost) over for us. Sure hope that the others out there still waiting will soon get their piece of good news! Keep on praying guys! Really, in God's time talaga cause He knows what is best for us!

Thanks Kirk. Smile Here's our timeline:
EOI selected: August 2004
ITA received: November 2004
ITA lodged: Feb 2005
Interview: March 28 2005
WTR invitation: May 20 2005
WTR lodged: June 6, 2005
WTR Approved: Jan 17, 2006
Passports returned: In a day or two (hopefully!)

The wait was really nerve wrecking especially when I think of the fact that most of our batchmates have already received theirs and are now in NZ. What caused the delay we'll never know for sure. Actually when I inquired last week, the response was that it might be issued before the end of Feb. I didnt take it seriously considering that I received similar template replies in the past stating it might get approved before the end of September, then again in November, so I thought it's another best effort pledge. But surprise! It came before the Feb 2006 deadline. Good luck to all. Very Happy

Congrats, layjo!

Can you give specifics on the snags you've encountered with Citibank? I'm using the same card kasi.
Thanks.

To Nyusiland: My V.O. is Ms. Rita Martin.

To Raainy: For overseas transaction, Citibank requires prior approval. This I learned when I paid for the ITA. So when I lodged the WTR last June, I called up Citibank to get prior approval. Unfortunately due to the delays, I have to seek prior approval from Citibank every month. This has become routine for me while waiting for the WTR decision. Last Jan 5 I again called up Citibank for the prior approval and they said it's ok. However last Jan 13, I got word from NZIS BKK that Citibank did not approve transaction for migrant levy. So I called up Citibank again but nobody wants to admit who is responsible for this snag when I was made to believe that prior approval was already given last Jan 5. Finally, the second attempt by NZIS BKK worked after I told them that according to Citibank to please try again.

Hi Jesse, highly commendable blog...may i add some info on banking and IRD lang....I would also suggest that people should also look into other banks like Kiwibank once they have secured a permanent address here at NZ since they require it....Banks here have many programmes depending on ones needs kaya one should really search and study these different programmes even if one is still at the Philippines since information on these are all available at the websites...Depende rin po kasi iyan sa kapasidad ng magbabanko at ibabanko niya at ano ang purpose niya...

May magandang account type ang Kiwibank wherein they really have a high interest rate and all transactions are free of charge unlike their other accounts...one can compare this with streamline of ASB .... I like Kiwibank kasi no-frills, no-added cost banking sila.

As for the IRD, this can be prepared and printed while you are still in the Philippines...if one has made a pre-arranged accomodation, indicate this address at the IRD form and mail it as soon as you land at the NZ soil sa may airport pa lang sa aircrew ng plane free pa ito. IRD processing takes 10 days on the average. This one is needed for banking as well. Without IRD, you will be charged for a higher tax rate on your interest rate sa bank.

Hope this helps... javascript:emoticon('Very Happy')

Hi Sesame! I am one of the new members in this forum and I came across with one of your posts regarding the disapproval of a couple as a result of the Bangkok interview. Did they tell you if they were informed by their VO of the reason for the disaaproval?

My husband and I are scheduled to attend the interview on Feb. 1. Our VO is Rita Martin. Prior to reading your post,we were given the impression that the Bangkok interview is only a formality of the whole application process. So, meron din pa palang bumabagsak after this? It's just sad to think na nakarating ka na sa dulo at gumastos na ng katakut-takot, tapos mauuwi pa rin pala sa wala. Siguro naman, exceptions lang ang ganitong cases, no?

Hi layjo, congrats! I read from one of your posts that Rita Martin was also your VO. Give me naman tips on how she conducted the interview with you? Thanks!

Hi Maris1018,

I'm sure that the case of the couple I mentioned is an exception. If I remember it right, the VO is saying something like "unrealistic expectations of NZ". I think that interviwees should not only mention the good things about NZ/migrating to NZ but also the possible difficulties that one may face in a foreign land. Ika nga, its not going to be a bed of roses. When asked about what possible challenges, hurdles, etc, don't be afraid to tell your VO what you think or feel, discuss what you think would be the posible struggles that you might encounter but tell your VO also how are you going to manage these difficulties. Opinion ko lang ito. Goodluck on your interview and I know that you will do good. Bye.

Hello maris1018!

Apparently almost all the vos ask the same type of questions: your skills and marketability in the work place, adjustments to a new culture, etc. Ms. Martin dealt with the same questions. Aside from giving satisfactory answers, how you carry and handle yourself during interview are also important. Such as the eye contact, exuding some confidence yet not to the point of being overbearing and too strong. Be straightforward. I don't want to frighten you but I have a friend who didn't make it in the interview. And we have the same v.o. He was interviewed July and last November he was sent a letter stating that he will not be given WTR invitation. Reason? He failed to convince them that he could make productive contribution to NZ so he was asked to produce a job offer in order for his application to proceed. Good luck! Smile

Hello Sesame (Ernie)!

We know each other because we met in Peralta before our interview. Nauna kami sa inyo sa BKK ng 2 days. We used to text each other up to the time you got your visas in November. Unfortunately I lost my cellphone so we lost contact. When are you leaving? Kami by March 4 (tentative pa) bound for Wellington. Sama ko na si mrs and the kid para di na ko ma-home sick! Si Lalyn (the other girl we met in Peralta)left for Aukland two weeks ago.

Regards

To Sesame and Layjo,

Thank you very much for all your help! It will indeed be very useful for my preparations for the interview.

Sana makapasa din ako. Till next time!

Hi Jojo,

Ikaw pala si layjo. Kaya pala hindi ka na sumasagot sa text ko lately nawala CP mo. Anyway, I'm leaving this Feb 17, ako muna, pag settled nako saka ko pasunurin pamilya ko. Better get your tickets early, I had a difficult time getting an earlier flight, hindi ko lang alam sa Wellington, Auckland kasi ako. Si Lalyn ba yong single na taga Paranaque? Meron ka na titirhan doon? Mag palitan nalang tayo ng contact number before tayo umalis para magkita nalang tayo doon. Bye for now.
