Hello po sa inyong lahat, hello jap..........I'm a new member.
Jap diyan ka parin ba sa Canada? Medyo confuse lang ako, plano naming mag migrate, my husband at ang 3 year old kong anak. Since napuntahan mona ang NZ, Australia at Canada, what do you think, i-share mo naman sakin yung mga naging experience mo.

hello CIL! your comments are very valid.

re migration to canada, parang mas matagal kesa NZ. sa nz kasi, as long as mataas ang EOI score, you will know in 3-4 months (daw) kung ITA material ka. pero sa canada, napakatagal daw ng hintay mo, di mo alam kung nasaan na ang papeles mo. altho comparing pass marks between NZ and can, parang mas madaling makakuha ng high score sa can.

re work-work-work in canada, di ako sure. sa pagkakakwento ng pinsan kong nandun, basta 9am-5pm strictly work, walang pabanjing-banjing pero di rin daw masyado required mag overtime. at super generous daw sa benefits. nung nanganak sya, binigyan daw sya ng up to 1yr maternity leave. 1yr yan na may sahod sya kahit na di sya pumasok! libre ospital, pero max 1 day lang -- kahit na bagong panganak ka, ipepwersa ka nilang umuwi mula sa hospital after 1 day.

re magpalaki ng bata, yun din ang kinatatakutan ko. ang general impression natin sa mga puti is that their kids are too liberated. ganun din naman yata sa NZ, kasi pagka 18 na daw ang mga bata, pwede na silang magsarili. mahirap iwasan ang impluwensya ng mga puti, since ganong klaseng tao ang kasama ng mga anak natin sa school. very big chance na madala sila, unless solid na solid ang values formation and foundation. come to think of it, may mga pinsan akong matino sa vancouver, pero meron din akong mga pinsang drugista sa new york. masasabi natin na magkaiba ang naging takbo ng buhay nila kasi magkaiba siguro ang naging kaibigan/barkada/peer-pressure, and just as importantly, magkaiba ang patakbo ng mga magulang nila.

in terms of cost of living, mas mahal yata ang mga gamit sa canada dahil sa PST, na dinadagdag pa sa GST. alberta province lang ang walang PST. on the other hand, makikita sa cost of living index, #33 ang wellington, samantalang #58 ang vancouver (at #131 ang manila). baka siguro mas mataas ang sweldo sa canada, kaya mas affordable ang mga gamit?

hi cil, ok naman sa nz... free ang schooling until highschool, pati hospitalisation. may parental leave din up to one year. and pwede isumbong sa pulis if you're caught attempting to hit a child, so you can rest assured na di sasaktan kid mo while in childcare Smile
however, may nakilala kami na filipino family who stayed a long time in canada, but moved here to nz as migrants, then after six months only decided to go back to canada. they have three kids, and only the guy is working; stay-at-home yung wife. obviously, things didn't go as they expected... di raw sila makakatagal (here in wellington) with a single income only.
I'm not sure if that's their only reason for disliking nz, but i don't even know why they left canada in the first place. Maybe they had high expectations of nz, or maybe di nila nakuha yung job na gusto nila. But i'm certain na mataas nga cost of living dito.
But marami naman kaming single-income families dito, and are enjoying our lives here. We are fortunate enough to live in a place where the filipino community is active, and nagtutulungan. I found it important for us to have a lot of filipino friends to keep our sanity (as against homesickness) and culture intact (buti na yung merong kalalakhan na filipino values ang mga kids) ... not to mention yung filipino dishes na matitikman mo everytime na may gathering, which is actually napapadalas na Smile
good luck to you! and whatever you decide, i hope it works for you and your family.

Hi Cil,

Doon sa forum about “Filipinos wanted to migrate in NZ” http://www.backpack-newzealand.com/nz/article187-15.php, I have a posting about the cost of living between NZ, Australia and Canada. I hope you look into it para makita mo rin yung advantages and disadvantages between them.

Second, sorry if I have to say this pero I was hoping this will be the last time I will reply to some questions regarding Canada, kasi this forum was setup for New Zealand. Out of delicadeza, we should respect the owner of this website – sticking to items/questions regarding NZ. Hope you understand – dyahi na kasi. Maybe kung meron ibang web sites about migrating to Canada, pwede nating pag-usapan iyon doon.

Anyways, I feel obligated to answer your questions (siempre gusto kong makatulong sa iyo or sa ibang kabayan natin na makapagbigay ng konting impormasyon). Check the other forum and I will post my answer there, so it will benefit more people.

Cheers!

Hi Jap! I want your honest to goodness opinion, sinceiknow that you've been to US, NZ and Canada already... Correct me ifimwrong... are u living in canada right now? Medyo confused kasi ako lately kung gagamitin ko pa ang canadian immigrant visa ko which will expireon august 19, this year. I am in NZ right now holding a work visa and anytime ican apply nowfor my PR visa since i got married already with my kiwi husbandand we have been in a stable relationship for more than 2 years now. Before i get a job, ofcourse,i wanted to fly na to canada... but now that i got a permanent job with a govt agency (which is more stable and quite rewarding... and i guess,i can see a career in the future), medyo nag dadalawang isip na ako(although i must admit malaki rin ang nagastos ko for this canadian imm visa)... some of my colleagues from the phils before who are now in canada says medyo mahirap na rin daw buhay ngayon sa cnada at hirap na rin maghanap work at kagaya ng sinabi ni cil... fast paced ang buhay (unlike in NZ which is laid back and simple)at marami na ring tao!

I dont want to push my luck too much, so at this point, parang i will totally give up na canada... anyway, pag PR or NZ citizen na... australia can also be an option... and i guess, travelling to canada may not be difficult in case type ko pumasyal... besides,i dont think my hubby wants to go with me in canada anyway...

what do u think?

Thanks...klarisse

Hi Klarisse,

First of all congratulations sa iyong wedding and also sa iyong job. It is also good that you are starting to adjust and enjoying life in NZ. Cool breeze, clean air, rolling green hills, friendly people - what else can you ask for? How about you ask your husband for paua (pawa), prito mo with butter (yummm). Go fishing by Hauraki gulf, snappers are really huge there. Visit Kelly Tarlton and Rainbows End kung wala kang magawa during week ends. Then go to Coromandel, nice beach and there is a hot spring by the beach. Next will be Rotorua - hells gate, the geyser, hot pool but don't miss the white water rafting by the Kaituna river - the best in the world - walang sinabi yung mga rafting dito, then go for a luge and zorb rides. Then head back to waitomo - see the glowing worms in Waitomo caves or if you are daring enough, try abseiling and black water rafting, sa loob ng kweba. Are these enough to convince you to stay in NZ? Nasa kalahati pa lang tayo ng NOrth Island. There are more to visit. hehehehe...
Remember the earlier posting/discussion we had about work - like what i (M and K too) said before medyo mahirap sa umpisa pero once na nakapasok kana, nasa diskarte muna kung paano mo mararating yung gusto mo. And I believe with your qualifications, mataas ang mararating mo - konting tiyaga - patience is a virtue.
Anyways, by mid August mag expire ang iyong landed immigrant visa, I think kung hindi ka papasok sa Canada before that date, mapapaso yung iyong visa. Ask the Canadian consulate there in NZ (Embassy is in Sydney,Au), kung pwedeng i extend if you are not planning to drop it. Kung hindi pwedeng i extend and you are planning to keep it - kailangan pumasok ka dito before mag expire and you should not be outside of Canada for more than a year para hindi ma drop yung PR status mo dito - Magastos di ba? Another to consider is your hubby - is it okay for him to move here?
About Job prospect, parang sa NZ din - no local experience, no job offer (not all though). While in IT, like my wife nakakuha agad sya. Meron din namang offer for drafting for me, pero 2/3 lang ng sahod compare sa NZ o AU kasi nga wala akong Canadian experience. That is when I decided na balik school ako. After a year of schooling nasa IT field na ako. After my course, maraming opportunity (wala pang dot.com burst) kaya marami pang trabaho. Nung magtrabaho ako sa US (contract) nasa IT na ako, pero ngayon balik na ako dito sa Canada. Ngayon most immigrant inaabot ng 4 to 8 months bago makakuha ng trabaho sa linya nila - nag start muna sa ibang posisyon, then nag move later on sa field nila sa same company. Yung mga mabilis makapasok nasa IT field, then yung mga accountants and nurses. Although yung mga civil, mechanical, and electrical engineers sa atin na marunong mag drafting, in demand sila as draftsman. Maraming construction firm with billion dollars project with oil and gas companies ang nangangailangan ng kanilang skills. Kontrata ang labanan, minsan umaabot ng $90.00 per hour ang sahod ng mga ito. Maraming trabaho, kaya lang mga odd office jobs - like clerical and majority are contract work.
Here's a tip! If both of you are not over 30 within the next 3 years, once nakuha mo yung citizenship mo sa NZ apply kayong mag-asawa ng working holiday visa (200 candidates per year) dito sa Canada just like what we did then. Pasyal at trabaho kayo dito for a year to experience and see the lifestyle if it suites yours.
Rat race ang buhay dito but weekend is pretty much like NZ. Main reason why we move here kasi we can do more vacations and achieve our dreams faster (bec. of higher income). If we are in NZ, it will take a while for us to achieve those dreams - but we can and so are your dreams. But if you are content of having simple life with a great place to live - NZ is the choice. Probably by now you know already that if you are a NZ passport holder, pwede ka ng magtrabaho sa Oz, or pumasyal dito sa Canada o US without visa for 3 months.
There are other reasons why we move here but the main is the one i mentioned above, it might not be the same as yours, kaya mahirap sabihin na "halika na at lipat ka na dito". My suggestion is to try it there first - see how it goes in the next three years, then decide if you still want to move. It took us 8 years and a work outside of NZ before we decided to move. A NZ passport gave us the opportunity to work in OZ and get a working holiday in Canada. It give us a window to see or achieve our dreams in a different perpective.
Goodluck and have fun with your life in Aotearoa! Again, congratulations to you and your hubby!

Cheers!

Hi Jap! Thanks for that very enlightening response... yes,you are right, there are lots of nice places to explore here in NZ... sa rotoroa, taupo and up to wellington pa lang ako nakakarating. Ive heard south island has more to offer. My pinoy friends who travelled from the PI to attend my wedding last month almost dont want to go home...they had explored the south Is. (buti pa sila)!
At our age (me and my husband are in our early 40's) i cant afford to keep jumping from one country to another, kaya most likely, dito na lang siguro kami sa NZ and later on either move to Oz. Nakakapagod magsimula ulit at magastos. Besides, my work now with the govt is more or less stable.
Canada will always be there and once i got my NZ passport I can go there for a holiday! Besides,my hubby does not want canada or US.
Again, thank you and i wish you and your family more success!!!
