I have bought a new tent (hilleberg akto) and have loads of other camping kit. Should i bring over my boots and tent as i have heard that New Zealand customs take boots and tents from you to clean them. Or should i just by some new boots over there and a new tent?

Hi Carl, you have to declare your camping gear and they will inspect it, so if you bring your tent & boots make sure they are thoroughly clean with no soil deposits etc. Although customs will probably still check/clean them when you arrive.
"If you’ve been to a rural area in another country, or on a farm or abattoir, clean all dirty clothes and footwear. Do the same with any tramping/hiking, camping or horse riding equipment you may have used." MAF (Minister of Agriculture and Forestry
Whether you bring them or not is your call, if you can afford to buy new ones then you will get less hassles when you arrive.
If you do decide to bring them could you post here and let us know how you got on?

| Thanks for the help and info garry! Also how accessable is Mt Taranaki? Ive wanted to hike it since i was a nipper...Great site by the way! |

| I presume you won't have your own transport? If not Withers Shuttle operates a shuttle service between New Plymouth and Mount Taranaki. |
