Hi All.
not sure if this has been discussed in the previous posts as i never got the chance to browse through all of them.
i have sort of a "situation". my wife recently received a offer to transfer to their auckland office and she is currently applying for an Essential Skills work visa. likelihood of approval is high.
i, on the other hand, will start processing my work permit under the family stream as soon as my wife obtains her work permit.
due to this highly likely move, i have started to look for employers who will take me in. fortunately, my profession is included in the LTSL and a number of employers have expressed their interest.
my dilemma is this. after reading through literature on the essential skills work visa, it seems to discuss very vaguely the path to permanent residency. as my wife's job is not on the LTSL, there is a possibility of her visa not getting renewed in the future.
therefore, in order for us to have a more stable footing, i am thinking of applying for the SMC which qualifies me and my wife for permanent residency under the premise of having a legitimate job offer under a highly skilled occupation and wife having a job offer in NZ also.
i would like to get your thoughts around the following:
1. would it be best to apply for the SMC now considering my wife is moving to Auckland in November and i dont plan to move until early March 2011 (employer happy with this)
2. or do i get a permit under the family stream first, settle in NZ for a few months then apply the SMC from within. and is applying the SMC from within allowed?
3. or do i apply both SMC and work permit under the family stream concurrently. will the outcome be better or confuse immigration NZ? is it a case of applying only one or the other?
apologies for this lengthy narrative. i just hope someone here would be able to provide me better insights on what is best under my current circumstances. |

| I think Option 2 will be better. You can apply for SMC when you are in NZ as soon as you have been employed in an employment in LTSL. |
