Hello,

I have been planning to catch the biggest fish in the New Zealand’s waters, this summer. After some search on the internet, I found this company - The Owen River Lodge. They are quite responsive and have answered all my questions. Assured me The West Coast fisheries will allow me to show my wife what a skilled fisherman I am Smile
Now I need to send them a deposit to secure two spaces in July for us. I am getting cold feet since I only met this company through the internet.

Has anyone here used this company before? If so, would you please let me know if this company is legit? Don’t want to make that deposit and them to disappear. I need real people’s opinion, not what the company says about itself

Thank you in advance.

Jack

Hi Jack, I have never used this company before but I have heard of them. If you are really worried about them ripping you off try contacting the Nelson Information Center ( http://www.nelsonnz.com - email address on bottom of the page) and ask them.

Also remember that New Zealand is a small country and a company ripping people off in a tiny place like Murchison wouldn't last very long at all.

hello there. Don’t know about the company you named, though I could advise you something: look for customer reviews on the internet. The largest site that offers such reviews is E-opinions (www.eopinions.com). They have consumer reviews for all kinds of products, including travel. Yahoo Travel (travel.yahoo.com) offers consumer reviews on hotels, and attractions, and things to do. Fodors (www.fodors.com) offers consumer reviews on hotels. Infohub offers extensive coverage on tour operators. Check if that company is listed there, I think in the Rant&Rave Section. Hope this helps

Yeah, on Infohub the customers write personal reviews about tour operators. You might want to check for yourself:

Owen River Lodge reviews page

http://www.infohub.com/scripts/RANT_cgi/front.php?status=1&top_id=770&id_flag=2

I see the client satisfied, saying this travel agency is reliable, and helpful, the tour was fun, professional and knowledgeable travel guide (the lady praises the tour guide)

It’s so useful when you can read personal opinions, people who actually had business with a certain company.
You can search for review about other tour operators as well. The RANT&Rave Section

Sincerely,

Do you think I am dumb? All three posts are from IP address 195.225.247.194 ... the oldest trick in the book for messageboard spammers, ask a question as one person and reply as someone else with a URL drop. The reviews on infohub are possibly false as well. Of course this doesn't reflect on Owen River Lodge.

Hi Jack,

I am happy to provide you with previous guests details - that would be happy to talk / email you... (Obviously I'd gain their permission first).

I'd also recommend talking to myself - or any other accommodation provider before you hand over your deposit.

Oh - and don;t forget - the fishing season in this part of NZ is October 1 > April 30. So, the lodge is closed for the months of May, June, July, August & September.....

Have fun

Garry,

I think that perhaps you should check out Info Hub in more detail……..

The reviews whilst submitted by guests of my lodge are then verified by staff at Info Hub - and are then POSTED by Info Hub staff.

So, no review can be posted on the site until they are checked by Info hub.

Perhaps, in light of knowing the facts you may wish to review your quote

“The reviews on infohub for Owen River Lodge are obviously bogus as well”

Regards

Hi Felix, I have to question the credibility of the reviews posted when someone from that site goes around spamming messageboards.

Look at the review dates on some of them, they all seem to be around the same time as they posted their sales pitch on these forums.

Here are a couple of other sites that this guy has been hitting, remarkably similar to the start of this thread.
