planning to take the practical driving exam next week, although wala pa ako kinukuha na sched.

Any advise? some people are saying na mahirap daw and I know atleast 2pinoys who recently failed their practical. Pasaway daw kasi pag sa waitakere or massey kasi sobra higpit ng examiners.

The usual...

-Look ahead especially when approaching intersections. (you don't have to slow down too much if there are no hazards ahead)
-Never ever ignore the give way rules.
-Never ever ignore traffic and stop signs.
-Don't go beyond the speed limit.
-If you're holding up traffic and you can't increase your speed anymore, let the other cars behind you pass when possible.
-Maintain safe distance from the vehicle in front of you.
-Check the mirrors every 10 sec or so.
-Follow instructions.
-DON'T drive recklessly.

Would be helpful if you're already familiar with the road where you'll be taking the exam so practice driving if you can. Too stressful? eat a gum if you want.

Aside from what engr2008 said, there are two common trick questions the instructor will ask:

1. he/she will ask you to stop the car. DO NOT stop if there is no parking area, tell the instructor you will stop at the nearest available shoulder or parking area;

2. he/she will ask what are the type of hazards or risk that you have encountered while driving. include people walking on the road since they might cross the street right away, bicyle drivers, etc.

3. try to drive around the area you intend to take your exam before the date of your exam at least you will have a feel of the road.

good luck!

Hi Phil,

Have you book for an exam yet? Try AA Orewa, most of my friends pass the test at Orewa. Unfortunately I failed on my first attempt and already booked for my second on the 11th of Feb.

Good luck to both of us.

Cheers
Jun

Here in Wellington, I took a one-hour tutorial with a driving school based in the area where I was going to take the practical test. Cost me $50 but it was money well spent. Inayos talaga nila lahat ng mali ko so that pagdating ng actual exam, madaling-madali na lang talaga for me. I would say imposible na bumagsak yung kumuha ng tutorial.

Yung mga inayos ranged from how often ka dapat tumingin sa rear-view mirror and side mirrors, gaano ka dapat kadalas lumingon, ilang seconds ka dapat nakahinto sa stop sign, yung position ng hands mo sa manibela (take note: you cannot grab the wheel underhanded even when making a u-turn), the right way to go through a round-about, identifying hazards, etc. And these were all done in the same area/route where my practical exam was to take place. No surprises anymore for me on test date. It would really be close to impossible to fail the exam after taking the tutorial.

Hehe... yup. I really find it stupid too.

When I took my practical exam, i didn't bring a supervisor with me. The examiner went directly to checking the vehicle.

Pag meet mo sa examiner, usual greets lang.. hi, how are you? (to check if you're really ok to take the exam) Tapos check-up of documents. You have to give your temporary driver's license and sign up a form. No need to show your Phil's driver's license.

He/She will then ask you where you parked your vehicle. Registration, WOF, horn, signal and brake lights.
