hello

nandito sa Welly ang seat of government - kaya kung government agencies (national/head offices) ang target mo - good to try out things in Welly (of course doesn't mean na kung wala ka sa Welly, di ka na puede mag apply sa govt.)

dahil nga political capital , many companies choose to have offices near govt offices (e.g. mga subcontractors, recruitment agencies, ibat-ibang private service providers).

mahal nga lang ang cost of living (medyo mahirap humanap ng flat near central city)

however, the size of NZ allows for relatively high level of mobility - kaya kahit nasa Auckland ka, if would be easy to come down to Welly, canterbury, etc. to sit for an interview.

Sa telecoms as in general description, wellybuddy, not in Telecom as in company.

Auckland and Wellington are good points of entry and some agencies do conduct interviews there for jobs in other parts of NZ, so it is best that you are as flexible as possible during your WTR so you can go anywhere when a job offer is given to you.

thank you po, 2 months na po yung husband ko sa Auckland but until now wala pa rin sya mahanap na work kasi po priority po ang PR at citizen. He told me also na may strike ngayon sa telecoms kasi nawalan daw ng project yung 2 contractor (downer at transfield) sa Auckland kay priority ngayon ng ibang company yung mga nanggaling na sa 2 company na yan. Napakalaki daw po ng competition ngayon sa Auckland so he's planning to move po sa ibang part ng NZ baka mas malaki ang chance na makahanap sya ng work like sa Christchurch nga po. Kaya lang po we're not so sure kung marami rin pong company na ma aplayan sa Christchurch or sa other part po ng NZ...

Might as well tell your hubby to try Visionstream, they're hiring right now.

Is this the same company that recommended that telecom employees be terminated as permanent employes then hired as "independent contractors"?

Pero yung Visionstream Auckland lang yung balwarte diba? Yung Downer EDi and Transfield ba malakas pa rin sa ibang lugar sa rest of North Island and South Island?

tell your hubby to keep on applying....(at the same time, avail of community services - e.g. seminars on how to improve CV, interviewing skills, etc...) I'm sure marami sa Auckland mga ganyang seminars/workshops.

Nabasa ko minsan, someone in this forum is organising a forum/network of engineers/IT professionals. San na kaya yun? Perhaps that guy/gal can help you? HMmmm,,,,

If on January 2010 you are not getting any positive job prospects due to the situation surrounding your husband's industry, may I suggest you "cast your net" further and look for jobs across the ditch or other foreign countries? Hopefully, a teleconference interview would be amenable when the time comes.

From last I applied in 2008, a visa application fee to Australia is less than 100 bucks for 1 year valid visitor's permit, mulitple entry. 10 working days processing time as long as all documents are presented. PM me for more details.

That is right. December's really the worse time for job hunting. Nonetheless, jsut keep on applying. As the saying goes, "You will always miss...100 percent of the shots you don't take."

Yes, you child should be able to go to school. You have two choices - community day care centres or those "private" pre-schools which accept kids up to five. you get 20 hours free, the rest will be charged per hour. shop around.in many schools, there's a long waiting list, though.

for pre-school yes. formal schooling starts around 5, i think.

i am not sure for pre-schooling but formal schooling starts around february of every year, since summer break in nz is from early december till late feb.

other arrangements might be amenable to you if both of you are working. hopefully, you can work in shifts so you can juggle working and taking care of baby at the same time.

try to secure places for your kids as early as now as places are limited and popular schools have long waiting lists.

try to polish your resume na and register at various job websites for nz and au even though december is just around the corner.

Thank you po ulit...
