Marami sa mga kababayan natin ang nag lapse ang 6 o 9 months ng kanilang WTR at na decline ang PR pero wala na tayong naririnig sa kanila because most prefer to shut up. But it would be helpful to hear their stories
so as not to commit the same mistakes.

Since the internet can cloak identities, I hope this thread could be a venue to educate yung mga paparating pa on what course of action to take pag sasabak sa new zealand and alternative ways to gain residency (e.g. work, student permit). Any tips would very much be appreciated.

1. Enroll in a study that leads to an occupation in the Long Term Skills List (at least 1 year course)

1.1 Spouse could be granted special work permit
1.2 Children could be granted student visa - free schooling

2. After the study, graduate is granted Graduate Work Search Permit (1 year) to be able to work
3. While working with the visa in #2, apply for SMC-PR
4. If applying in #3, your PR is processed very quickly as you have the educational attainment here-- no NZQA, no IELTS.
5. PR is approximately 3 to 4 months away from lodgement

Ito ang dinaanan ko na stage but I skipped #2 kasi I got a job offer in the last year of my study. Got a Work Permmit, lodged the PR after getting the work permit..My PR is processed in 1 month

1. Magpakasal sa kiwi - Actually, live-in pwede na.

Recognized ng Kiwi yung common law relationship, mapa-hetero or homo.

2. Mag-aral - option din ito kung medyo flush with cash ka kasi yung tuition mo is more than double the actual tuition provided to domestic students and of course, napag-gastusan mo na yung WTR application mo so medyo mahirap sa bulsa, pero kung nakakuha ka ng Papa based sa #1, ah ok na ok ka na....

3. Invest - heto talaga pera lang ang katapat nito. And di lang thousands yung pinag-uusapan.

Of course may mga options pa. Kung gusto mo, i-download mo yung operations manual ng NZ Immigration at basahin mo yung mga different visas available. Mga 800 pages din yun, mabilis lang na basa.

Well, ang title nga ng post eh casualties of war.

And when you go to war, you must have a strategy and enough ammo (i.e. money) to let you win.

And, in my humble opinion the most overlooked factor in this kind of "war" is that one must have an effective exit plan kung na-realize mo na your strategy and your ammo is not enough to sway the tides of war in your favour.

So in terms of the original post, what's a viable strategy? how much ammo? if you need to retreat, what's the next step? if you need to hang the white flag, what's the exit plan?

I think the answer to this is: "Life goes on..." It does not matter where you are; NZ or back home in the Philippines...happiness is not measured by how much one have....it's how you appreciate even the simpliest of things...migrants like us plan to go to NZ to find that happiness, contentment or sometimes we are blinded by the comfort that we hear or see about that place but still we are not happy when we have them already

...so if it's not there that we find this luck...we try again, or we find it somewhere else, or either we just appreciate "home" more rather than look for something that we cannot have there...

if anybody would tell me that any other country is better than "home"...he is a fool by saying that...it's just the factors and hope of making our lives a little better that's why we do this...but still deep in our minds...everyday..when we are so far from home...that we think about it everyday and wish we can go back and feel this "different kind of happiness" again...

: )
