I agree with the previous poster.

And thank you superkupalbuddypluslevi, I really appreciate that you took the time and effort to remember me in your prayers. I admit that my place in the heavenly repose is still a work in progress and surely the entreaties of someone like you, who seems confident of their place in heaven already and has God on their speed dial, can improve my chances of reaching the Pearly Gates. I am well and truly honoured by your thoughtfulness.

I hope wellybuddy is on his knees in gratitude and singing praises for you too.

Moving along - that's a nice sentiment to have, afranca, especially since you have disclosed that your migration journey was sideswiped a bit.

To me, your situation has a silver lining because you are still in the Philippines with a job. Your situation is frankly even better than those who were given a WTR9 and are now in migrant limbo since they have left everything behind, including a lucrative job and comfortable lifestyle, to migrate.

I've always toyed with an idea, although it does take a lot of risk and some cash to pull it off.

What if you tried to look for work in Australia as well while on a WTR 9? Probably look into other opportunities across the ditch if your WTR is halfway with no skilled job offer on sight?

You can apply for a tourist visa to Australia for less than $100.00 NZD and can be processed within 10 working days while in NZ. Compared to the kind of bureaucracy we experience applying for any visa in the Philippines, visa processing is relatively quick and painless.

You must have all the documents on hand: passport sized photo, application form signed and filled up, letter of employment to show that you will return to NZ, funds to show that you can defray your trip to Australia and correspondence from the prospective employer of his invitation to come over to Australia for an interview. It could be better if you have more than one interview for one leg of the trip to maximize your stay. Round trip tickets are around $500.00; accommodations are dependent on how do you like your digs.

Or, you might be lucky and the employer would be willing to interview you via teleconference.

This could be an idea especially those who are skilled but cannot get work bec of the recession in NZ such as engineers. Just a thought.

I do respect each and every opinion in this site as I either take it or leave it. It's up to the reader how he perceives the thoughts and sentiments posted.

Anyways...I am still in Singapore with a job. I have not resigned yet. My passport is with the NZ immigration since last week for WTR approval. I am also applying to go to Australia as I will visit a friend in Sydney before going to NZ. I am a civil engineer and have researched about what to expect in NZ and is ready for any consequences but still hoping for the best because that is all what I can do and think right now. I have been away from the Philippines for almost 12 years and have lived in several countries aside from Singapore and always miss home of course and there is nothing that will compare to it. Recession or not...trying for something I think will be a good learning experience for me is still something that money cannot buy and replace. There are a million jobs out there..anywhere...money can always be earned and spent...but the experience and the opportunity to see new things...is something worth trying for..who knows? maybe I'll die tomorrow...so we should live life to the fullest and try as much as we can...as long as we have the opportunity...

While waiting for your visa, have you registered your resume with seek Australia and New Zealand?

Also, there is a seminar conducted by the Auckland Chamber of Commerce called the "kiwi career success" seminar. this is a free seminar (you are encouraged to bring snacks) and open to new migrants "to help you start your successful Kiwi career" (their words, not mine).

But slots are limited so email kcs@chamber.co.nz for their dates and time.

I disclose that I am not an employee of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce nor affiliated with the seminar in any capacity whatsoever.

it's bizarre to read someone who hates forum posters like me (who are thought of "vilifying new posters in the forum") ends up vilifying others in the end...and using/assuming another identity at that...

but yes, I am truly grateful for all the prayers...thanks

this is a forum - one asks question, someone answers...and so on...this keeps the forum more interesting...

I don't have any pre-conceived notions about the socio-economic status of NZ aspirants. If by "hampas lupa" you mean poor, then you are correct. I am poor and I'm OK with that.

For a moment, I thought Ms. Sharon Cuneta was in the room.
You seem like a rich man/woman and are probably famous.
Why don't you tell the forum some more details about you being worthy of adoration and reverence - so we (or at least me) will be struck by your awesome presence and probably go blind by simply gazing at the radiance of your glorious illuminatus persona?

Goodbye sa forum na ito

I will definitely miss you. It's sad to see you go. Please do come back at anytime. Yo have shared wonderful things online and many may have reaped benefits from your thoughts.

My apologies for not quoting the other things you said - just too low for me to bend.

Regards

But I'm not sure you will leave..

I'm sure you will come back either as you are or by wearing another cloak of anonymity...Either way, I'm sure you will be most welcome, especially by the MTRCB group. Smile

and one more time.....up for this...

Ano kayang magandang movie title para dyan sa dalawa? Alam ko na!

Starring wellybuddy and xtan (syempre equal billing):

"Subukan mo ako, baka lumuhod ka sa akin."

Ay, parang porn movie!!!!! Laughing

Is the welly-xtan "Espadahan 2009" available on pay-per-view? The fight, not the porn. Smile

Marami sa mga kababayan natin ang nag lapse ang 6 o 9 months ng kanilang WTR at na decline ang PR pero wala na tayong naririnig sa kanila because most prefer to shut up. But it would be helpful to hear their stories
so as not to commit the same mistakes.

Since the internet can cloak identities, I hope this thread could be a venue to educate yung mga paparating pa on what course of action to take pag sasabak sa new zealand and alternative ways to gain residency (e.g. work, student permit). Any tips would very much be appreciated.

I hate to break it to you bro, but you can do everything right, not commit any mistakes, have an IQ of 300.......and still end up going home after 9 months! It's a crapshoot or a lottery more than a "pagalingan" contest. That's why I agree with levi that one needs an exit strategy. Don't count on your talent/skills/tiyaga/prayers to see you through. Everyone knows how to make a kiwi CV - you have to be incredibly dense not to catch on. Everyone is as sipag as anyone in terms of applying and pounding the pavement. Everyone is skilled. Everyone thinks that the good Lord will favor him/her with a job and let another family suffer instead. Swertihan na lang talaga. The only strategy to have is get lucky. Which isn't a very dependable strategy. Thus, the need for an exit/back-up plan.

I don't know what the odds are nowadays in converting a WTR into PR because there have been no scientific surveys done and I don't expect any in the near future. Everything is just anecdotes and urban legends and a friend of a friend of a friend type of stories. And mine is not so good. I know of only one family who obtained PR this year among our kababayans who came here on WTR. On the otherhand, I know of four families who had to eventually go back to Manila after not finding a job or having their PR application declined. I'm probably mixing with the wrong crowd or maybe I don't get out often enough. Or I was a black cat in a previous life.

Please take note that that's only based on people I've met and isn't a reliable basis to form any scientific conclusions. My sample size is ridiculously small. One shouldn't conclude that they have a 20% chance of making it. It maybe a lot lower or a lot higher than that.
