Hi there,
Somewhere in november i would like to walk the Routeburn track.
I know that its neccesary to make an advance booking at the DOC for a hut pass. Is there anyone who knows how many time in advance you should make a booking? I know that it can be quite a while for the Milford Track...
Is there someone who has experience walking the track alone? I'm a 22 year old female, and not such an experienced tramper... do you get lost easily, or is the track well marked? I hope anyone can help me out, thanks!

Hi,
I did a part of Routeburn Track in late october last year and we just booked the day before, and it was not a problem at all, in fact we were the only people staying in the falls hut. If you are planing to go in late november I would book at least a week or two before. From the access point nearest queenstown to falls hut it is not a problem to find your way, it is actually very easy. Dont know about the rest of the track since the alpine section was closed because of snow when we did it. Anyway there are probably other trampers and you can always ask the nice hut wardens for advice
Enjoy the track it is absolutely fantastic! |
