Hi,

I am travelling to NZ at the end of Feb and I am really, really,
pressed for time. I will be staying in Auckland (with my sisters)
most of the time but I would like to visit two places in the south
island - Mt Cook national park and the Fox and Franz Josef glaciers.
Can someone tell me the most optimal route to cover these two
places? My current thinking is:
- Fly from Auckland to Hokitika (via Christchurch).
- Bus from Hokitika to Franz Josef.
- ???? Best way to get from Franz Josef to Mt Cook National Park ????
- Bus from Mt Cook to Christchurch.
- Fly from Christchurch to Auckland.

By the way, I don't mind renting a car if that would be optimum.
At this time I am not sure if I will be travelling alone or if one of my
sisters will accompany me.

Also, is there a website where I can locate motels/hotels in Franz Josef
and Mt Cook National Park?

Thanks for any help.
Richard

Hi Richard,
You're plan sounds like the best plan if you're short in time. To get from Franz to Mt Cook you'd best take a bus to Wanaka (or Queenstown) and from there to Mt Cook. And there you can take an other bus to Christchurch.
But if you like hiking, you can also walk the Copelandtrack. It's a 2day walk from just south of Fox Glacier to Mt Cook.
By the way, whatever you do, don't stay at scenic circle in Franz Josef! It's a waste of money!
Have fun,
Diana
