Just want to ask if there is anyone here who needs someone to accompany them to the practical driving test site and can't find anyone to come with them. Maybe we can help each other, as I don't have anyone to go with me either. I just converted my license from International to NZ's, but the restriction tells me I should be accompanied by a supervisor. Anyone can be a 'supervisor' for me, just as long as the examiner sees that I'm accompanied.

Auckland area, preferably West.

Thanks

Seryoso,

When i do my practical driving, i just went directly to the testing station. If the examineer ask for your supervisor, just tell him you use your international license. Just make sure your international license is still valid and not over 12 months from the time you arrived NZ. Just clarify it with them cause it might not applicable in your place.

mine is already 2 years old na po, and was revoked by Land Transport when I took my theoretical exam, so basically what I'm holding is similar to a beginner license but jumping 2 notch higher to pro, instead of passing through restricted mode. Smile

Hi allanz_kie

Just a question. Did you have to convince the examiner that you didn't need a supervisor when you drove to the testing station?

I find it really stupid that they'll tell you that you can no longer use your overseas driver after you pass their theory exam.

What happens if I pass the theory test?

When you have passed the theory test you will get a New Zealand driver licence and you can no longer use your overseas driver licence for driving in New Zealand, even if you have been here less than one year.

If your New Zealand driver licence has been issued with any conditions, you must adhere to them. For example, if you are required to pass the practical test and have not yet done so, you will have a 'supervisor condition'. This means you must be accompanied by a supervisor at all times when you drive.

Your supervisor must be someone who holds a full New Zealand driver licence and has held it for at least two years. The supervisor must sit in the front passenger seat.

When i booked for practical exam, i asked the lady if i need to have a supervisor to accompany with me to the examineer. She said that it was supposed to be which is ridiculous...but she suggested that i will just use my Philippines license when going there... The examineer didnt ask for my supervisor anyway, maybe he knows how stupid the policy is.

I'm shocked that they didn't confiscate your overseas licence upon passing their theoretical exam, and much more surprised that the driving test examiner didn't fail you for showing alone... hmmm... are you sure your NZ license now is for professional, and not restricted?

Why should they confiscate my Philippines license? Its mine and they have no right to confiscate it cause i can still use it back home since the expiry is still on 2013. When I passed the theoretical exam I was issued a NZ license with condition which i must have a supervisor with me all the time except mopped. After I passed the practical driving, I was issued a NZ license without condition which is a Full NZ license as far as I know. Do I still need to get a NZ PROFESSIONAL license? Anyway, just sharing my experience hoping it will help.

@seryoso: They won't confiscate overseas license. After 12 months or after you take the theory exam, it's not valid anymore in NZ so you can't present it to a police officer when asked for it. And also, some examiners are not strict (not dumb to follow a stupid policy) so getting to the testing station alone won't be a problem. Timing2x lang.

@cez: You can take the practical exam when you're ready. The only problem is when you're on a restricted license and you get into trouble, you better have a supervisor with you when the police asks for your license.
