I am an engineer and currently in US on the H1B visa. I actually come from Malaysia. I am interested in immigrating to NZ. Accordingly, I submit the EOI to NZ. I am very excited that I just got the email from NZ stated that my EOI just got selected from the pool. Please advise what the next step is. I’m not sure if any officer will contact me within 10 days for the invitation to apply. I would like to start gathering the required documents and prepare the application in the case of receiving the invitation to apply. Anybody please advise where I can get the application and also check list of the required documents. Also, please advise if I will get the invitation to apply in mail or email. Any body pls… help Thank you very much.

Try to secure english copies (or official english translations) of your documents such as:

1. birth certificate
2. marriage license
3. birth certificate of children, if any
4. police clearance from Malaysia, and the US
5. diplomas/certificates showing educational attainment
6. proof that you have requisite english skills
7. proof that you have requisite work experience

Sorry for being curious, why didn't you try to secure a US green card?

Thanks for all the information. I actually tried to get the green card. However, the process took so long. Accordingly, I think that immigrating to NZ should be a great option for me. Thanks again.

not wanting to sound like a broken record here, but please do your homework before making the big jump in NZ. try to see if your skills are really in demand out here, even in the grip of the recession - yes, we have it here, as well.

if possible, at least with your US experience you can parley that into a job offer while processing your PR visa.

Thank yoy veyr much for your response and all info. I actually just received the letter from NZ stated that the Expression of Interest is declined. I claimed 135 points though they said that they can only award me 95 points, which is insufficient for the pull. This letter also stated that “The Long Term Skill Shortage List (LTSSL) states in order to claim these bonus points you must have a degree level (Level 7) qualification and registered on the International professional Engineers Register or Asia Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) Engineers Register or a Washington Accord Accredited Engineering Degree. You have not indicated having registration with either of the above boards and your degree is not Washington Accord accredited engineering degree. Accordingly, the bonus points claimed for work experience cannot be awarded.” Then, it summarize that I will not get the Invitation to Apply. This letter is dated June 24, 09 and mention that I have to respond in two weeks. However, I just got the letter on July 10, 09. This letter stated the master’s degree I used to claim the point is not Washington Accord Accredited Engineering. Note that I got my bachelor’s in Malaysia and master’s degree in US. In this case, would it be alright for me to change the degree I used to claim the point by using my Bachelor’s degree (Level 7) in stead of my master's degree? Note that my bachelor’s degree falls in APEC. Accordingly, I would get some more points and able to get the Invitation to Apply. Would it be too late to respond since it exceed two weeks regardless of the time I got the letter? Can I email them first and send the letter later on. I am very frustrated and please advise what to do. Thank you very much.
