Unless and until you get your PR, getting an apartment and a car, no matter how cheap, is going to bleed your cash heavily.
Renting on your own is not cost-effective but there are Pinoys who rent out spare rooms at a more cost-effective rate.
Join the AklPinoys egroup and ask for flatting options. Right now, you only need a roof over your head, a nice draft-free room, ample heating, phone and internet connection to start you up job-hunting.
Also, flatting is convenient if you need to transfer to another area if there is a job offer given to you. Not all computer technician jobs are located in Papakura, or Auckland, for that matter. Terminating a lease before it expires could be costly and could mean you giving up part of your deposit.
Don't buy a car yet - use NZ's transport system to take you to your job interviews. Who knows your job might be walking distance away. |

Start applying now!!! There are cheap cars which range from $500 up, but it'll depend of course with their reliability and condition. Papakura is too far from the city, you may need to live near the city (Mt Albert and Mt Wellington have cheap house rentals too), as most of the jobs which befit your skills are in or near Auckland Central. |
