I was a practising dentist in the phil (15 years)before coming over here last year. siyempre di recognized dito phil license ko, so i'm stuck w/ being a dental assistant up to now. i am now at the 33% tax bracket making over 52 thou a year but dental assistants are only on the short term list, not the long term list. i am about to spend 9 thousand NZD to take the dental board exam here para maka pag apply na for PR but going through the discussions on this forum about the ordeals of my fellow kababayans, i don't know if it will be worth killing myself getting a PR here o mag apply na lang kaya ako sa australia.

estimate palang ang 9 thousand NZD exam pa lang yun wala pa ang annual registration and that assumes i only need to go though 1 exam (eg: i pass on my first try)that does not include the cost of eventually applying for the PR

my IELTS score is well above the required academic grade and i pass all the health requirements, my papers are all ready but some advice would be nice. 9000NZD is a lot of money sayang naman kung i end up making a bad decision.

thanks guys

minimum 2 years experience sa dental industry, preferably clinical side, tons of patience (kasi dami ng antipatikong dentista dito), preferred these days may ceritificate in dental assisting. dati pwede na mag temp as dental assistant basta dentist ka somewhere else now they want your Certificate in Dental Assisting. may course sa AUT. mahal nga lang. but then if you're not a citizen here lahat mahal. Buti nakapasok pa ako when the certificate was not required.its in the short term list but that does not guarantee you will be approved for a work permit. some of my friends had a hard time renewing their permits, it takes longer now and you have to prove why it should be renewed. eg: how valuable are you to the dentist you are working for. that is for foriegners. ironically, pag new zealand citizen ka kahit di ka tapos ng high school tatanggapin ka naman ng dentista. immigration lang ang ma-arts.

If mas madali ma accredit ka as dentist sa australia, I suggest go to OZ. mas malaki na ang wages, mas madami pa work opportunities - based sa friends ko na andun.

that is so true, Phillidor, most of our kababayans are heading there, so might as well jump in the bandwagon... Smile

Yes, but they have more intricate and MORE expensive rules (in immigration and occupational registration) in AU, so there's a bit of a challenge pa rin for us.
