Stay put! NZ recession in full force. Work permit holders are encountering HUGE ressistance na ma employ. Mandate from NZ Govt to hire citizens and PR Holders first. NOT worth-it, at this time, if settled na kayo sa riyadh.

Tell your husband to look and apply for jobs online. That way he'll know his marketability here in NZ.

There are so many different network equipment/products and technologies. So many applications and systems in banking industry. So many different certifications in IT.

Network and communications is too broad. Just like I.T.

Thanks sa reply...siguro ang better na gawin na lang namin is we will still submit our passport kasi nandito na e, madami na rin kaming nasayang na pera and then pag ok sya try na lang nyang mag apply sa internet pero kung hindi maging swerte i give up na lang namin yung NZ...we have a choice pa kasi, all my families are in Canada pero pinili kasi namin mag migrate sa NZ before kasi e parang ang daming opportunity...

alepaula, buhay pa naman IT industry dito, pero mostly employing people with skills sa IT infrasture. Business Analyst role is almost a dead market, and Application Support roles seem alive and kicking pa...

Siguro now is not the best time to try your luck here, pero make sure na updated ka sa current trends at recession news, para pag paangat na, then you can make your move asap.

Not all IT area is affected by the recession. If all are affected, siguro wala nang makikitang mga job vacancy postings sa Seek website. At the moment, there are 1,290 jobs for IT.

The reality is that competition is so tight. Kalaban mo ang mga PR,citizen at saka ang kararating lang from different countries.

Unlike other occupation, IT is still in demand and will always be as people are already dependent of IT. It is just like water that becomes a prime commodity.

So buckle up, maging masinop sa pag-apply. The chance of being accepted becomes high when you've got the skills that any other does not have AND badly needed by the employer.

Do a research and the following questions could be your lead:

1. Is my skill needed in NZ?
2. Do I have the patience and perseverance?
3. Do I have the network of friends such as those in the yahoo group (like PinoyITnNZ or Pinoy2NZ?
4. Do I have the faith?

most importantly...

try to study the IT skill demands in NZ. You may have high calibre IT specialist skills but the demands of the market might not say so (just like in my case)... so I end up coveting general IT skills such as computer operator, sysad, data analyst, business analyst, testing etc which have been a tough one coz I am competing with citizens and PR holders combined with the unwritten rule of "kiwi-first" policy.

in the end, I ended up with nothing..

My IT skill is not in demand in NZ but in Europe. So I end up losing my NZ dream and finding myself in Germany.

If you have the essential skills which NZ particularly needs, then nothing to worry.. those jobs will come to you... (just register yourself with recruitment agencies)
