Hi! I'm Carrie,36 yrs of age with 3 kids. My husband and I are planning also to work to either Canada , Australia or New Zealand. I chose New Zealand. I have a friend who is working there and he advise me to apply online for a job through netcheck and seek.I also consulted the nz immigration website. I'm planning to apply as a skilled migrant and submit my Expression Online Of Interest because it cheaper. At first,I thought it was easy but as I read along the expression guide,I began to doubt myself If I could earn points.Besides, my work in not even in POL. I have so many questions in my mind and I'm asking for anyone to help me fully understand on how to answer the form and the requirements needed.I'm afraid to go to a consulting(besides,I don't even know one) firm because of financial difficulties. Can anyone help me? Please get in touch with me through carrieforbes_25@yahoo.com. Thanks very much!!!

hello to everyone, esp to those who plan to submit an eoi.

i'm a filipina married to a german citiz (am now a german citiz, too). in may 2004 i submitted an eoi electronically. it was only for myself, as we decided that my husb will follow (i`ll sponsor him) in two yrs' time, when i'm already settled. but of course, with a german ppt, he can always visit me whenever he wants without visa problems during the interim. my score was 115 (25 for age--was 39 then; 10 yrs work exp; 55 for educ). i prepared the whole thing without the help of an immig consultant.

on august 4th, my eoi was selected frm the pool, and i was sent a letter saying they will need 6-8 weeks to investigate my claims on the eoi. sounds good, i thought.

on the first week of sept, i checked my homepage on the nzis website and found a message that said," Congratulations. We are very pleased to confirm that your _Expression of Interest has been successful. You will shortly receive a letter inviting you to lodge an Application for Residence. The letter will contain information to help you complete your Application for Residence.
Please ensure that your _Expression of Interest holds your most current mailing address details so you may receive our letter at the earliest."

i was ecstatic. a month had passed, but no invitation came. so i emailed the customer help on the nzis website. however, i got no sensible reply, only that they do not give information on the internet. then why did they ask for my email address when i filled out the eoi form if they won't inform me by email?

on oct 11th i sent a fax to the nzis wellington office, and on nov 11th i got three short emails frm a visa officer in their london office. she`s maxine little. she asked me to confirm if i have an undergraduate degree and abt my work experience with the canadian embassy in the philippines before i moved to germany. i found the first question strange, bec i have a master's degree, and as everybody knows, an undergraduate degree is normally a prerequisite to a graduate deg. but it also came to my mind that she is checking. but only now? it was supposed to have been done before they put the congratulatory note on my homepage! just the same, i rcomplied to her reqst: on that same day i faxed to her copies of my univ diploma, univ transcript of record, letter of reference frm my most recent suprvsor at the emb, letter of emplyment frm the same office, and a detailed cv.

a week after i emailed her inquiring if she recvd the docs i sent. no reply. on nov 26th i recvd a registrd mail frm nzis london, poststamped nov 22nd, but the letter itself was dated oct 7th. that alone is already confusing. its contents all the more so.

i emailed ms little, asking her if the letter is real, bec of its date. she confirmed that it`s real, and repeated basically the contents of the letter: that my age score is 20 pts; my work exp is worth only 15 pts; and my educ is worth 55 pts; total is 90. therefore, my eoi cannot be included in the pool.

let`s take work experience: i have an mba, but my work exp that relates to that degree is only worth a total of 4.5 yrs. my two-yr univ teaching exp in the phils was not counted bec i had it before i recvd the new degree in 2001. my latest emplyment at the embassy, even as program asst/sec was considered "clerical." it was for a yr and a half, and my main duties were helping in case processsing and interpreting for applics. other duties were secretarial and clerical. she said all of it was clerical. i worked for three months at the unctad in switzerland. it was a "professional" position to assist organize an intl meeting. duties basically inclded contacting speakers and participants, searching the internet for info abt the same people, writing brief introductions for all the speakers, and was always in close contact with the participants to help them with their travel arrangements (visa, hotel booking) to help unload the secretary. this work is also clerical, accdg to our expert, ms maxine little.

i sent a fax to nzis welllington reqsting for an explanation abt the incongruence between the date of the letter and its contents, when the "investigation" wasn't done (if it really were) until nov 11th. perhaps it was dated as such for performance statistics purposes? and the big question was why the promise that an invitation to apply for perm residence will be sent to me soon, but i got a refusal letter instead! i also complained abt the words ms little wrote: " i must stress the importance of making an accurate points claim." as if i was trying to cheat by increasing my points. in the first place, i replied. i prepared the eoi all by myself (which is a mistake, perhaps?), and isn't it their job to correct the points, if need be, during the investigation period? this would mean before putting their note on my homepage that they will invite me to apply?

guess who replied. the people in the wellington office are either too lazy or simply indifferent to such mails frm clients--clients who pay. your guess is right--it's maxine little again, who replied, by email. in fairness to her, she apologized for the wording of her letter ("making an accurate points claim"). but the rest of my questions were left unanswered.

i realized that i will not get an official reply or apology frm nzis wellington. so i emailed her this week, asking her why she`s avoiding to answer my question abt the congratulatory note and the refusal letter, why the immig process (stages 5&6) is being reversed in my case. i also asked her how her department defines clerical work, and if all fresh mba grads in nz land managerial positions immediately. i mentioned that in the uno system, only people with (at least) master's degrees are allowed to hold a p (professional) position, such as i have had at unctad. besides, i asked her, are nz clerks get paid with a salary of over us$3,500 a month? (based on what my husb and i have been seeing on the job postings on the internet for nz, that amt is already for a managerial position!) and what abt the age factor, which she changed to 20 pts? my eoi was submitted in may and was selected frm the pool in august, and her refusal letter was dated oct 7th, more than a week before i turned 40. then i should be getting the orig point of 25. but no, she`s so cruel, she doesn't want people with mbas who only have clerical work experience to reside in nz, that she simply gave me 20 pts, no questions asked. mathematics is not my strong point, but i think simple calculations like that are easy even for a high school student.

in her reply this time, ms little never mentioned the word "clerical," but used the word "secretarial." itīs either she cannot make up her mind or she doesn't know what she`s talking abt (is her family name a misnomer or what?). again, in fairness to her, she apologized for the mistake of putting that note on my homepage. it was passed on to her. frm wellington, presumably. aha, now she`s confessing something! but why only now, after two emails? (i`m sure she never realized i`d be very meticulous with her refusal letter. she must have thought i'd be an easy client.) her reply on the age issue is still unacceptable to me, bec it doesn't make sense. i have realized it`s a waste of time and effort communicating with her. i'm not sure if i'd be successful, but i will try to get a wtitten apology for all the mess they did to my eoi.

today i've been trying to get hold of the customer service in wellington by phone, but the call cannot come through. i hope it`s not because they are avoiding calls frm angry people like me.

nzis employees are not worthy of their people's tax money--they are incompetent, unfair, arrogant, and unprofessional. above all, they create bad publicity to nz. the experience had left a bitter taste in my mouth that in the future i will not waste money, even as a tourist, in that country.

i hope what happened to me wouldn't happen to others who have submitted their eoi and have PAID so it can be processed fairly.

Thank you, Ms.Maria for sharing your experience. At least, I'll be more
careful with my decision on whether to submit my expression of interest by myself or with the help of someone. Kaya lang nga, talagang my budget is tight kaya I can't go to a consulting firm. What I'm doing right now is to apply online for a job in New Zealand. By the way, do you by chance, know if there is a required savings for a skilled migrant? Kasi in Canada, medyo malaki ang needed amount(show money). And if I include my huband and children in my application, are they required right away to go with me?

hi! here's what the visa officer wrote on how she assessed my eoi.

"To enable assessment of your work experience with the Canadian
Embassy in Manila and UNCTD further information was requested, and using the information received from you it did not qualify for points. SM11.10
Requirements for recognition - Work experience is recognised and
qualifies for points if:
a. it is relevant to the principal applicant's* current skilled
employment in New Zealand or offer of skilled employment in New Zealand; or
b. a visa or immigration officer is satisfied that it is skilled work
experience because it required, or enabled the principal applicant* to
gain, significant specialist, technical or management expertise; or
c. it is relevant to the principal applicant's* recognised
qualification (see SM14).
d. Principal applicants who do not have current skilled employment or
an offer of skilled employment in New Zealand (see SM7) will only
qualify for points for work experience if:

i. the work experience meets the requirements for recognition set out above; and
ii. that work experience was gained in a labour market that is
comparable to the New Zealand labour market."

hope it helps. but lookign back, had i taken the servcs of an expensive immig consultant, perhaps things would have not been as dismal as it is now. but i don't want to be dependent on such people. they will suck you until you're dry. there may be exceptions, but immig is a big business, and it`s so sad that you cannot "interpret" the immig laws without the help of these people. (sometimes.)

talking abt exceptional immig consultants, i know someone who was also satisfied with hers, and she paid a reasonable amt (ca us$3,000--is that reasonable? personally, i won't pay somone that much!), not the horrendous amts i've seen somewhere here, which people were wiling to shell out. i'll post the name and address once i get it frm my friend, who`s recently landed in auck.

my advice if you don't want to get a consultant is to read all the guides on how to claim the points. the friend also advised me to put all work experience, even if they're only for a few months. may help push the points up.

re your question if there is a required savings for a skilled migrant: wala po. no, they don't require any funds to be transferred to nz (unlike cda, for ex), but they want you to sign a docmnt stating that you have enough funds to support yourself and any dependents for the first 24 months of your stay in nz. that means, you will not be eligib for social welfare for two yrs. it`s good, isn't it, bec even if you get a low-paid job but also have a little savings or are thrifty, then you'd be able to pay for the rent of the house and the other living expenses.

all the best!

oops, you got another question, whichs is, "And if I include my huband and children in my application, are they required right away to go with me?"

in the eoi, they will ask you to type in all the names of members of your family (husb, kids) and their personal data. then you can click somewhere whether they're coming with you or not. if it's only you who will aplly first, then only your qualifs will be asssessed.

try doing an eoi to check if you`d get enough passing points. as long as you don't submit and pay (with credit card), then it`s not going to be assessed. i did mine for a week, coming back to the website sev times, checking and changing the answers. itīs free, and they will not erase it, have no fear. ask someone who has some compu knowledge and is not afraid to do such things on the internet, if you don't feel confident enough to do it on your own. sayang, if i were in the phils right now, i could help you do it.

by the way, the bdates of all your siblings (principal applic's and those of your spouse, if her/his qualifs will also be assessed at the same time as yours) will also be required somewhere in the eoi.

regards!

Wow.thanks for all the informations! Ang hirap kasi intindihin yung ibang requirements eh unlike sa Canada website. For me, mas madali ko na-gets ang pag assessed sa sarili.Actually, I made an assessment for my husband's qualifications and he passed. It was clearly stated kasi yung job descriptions you're qualifying and finishing an engineering or business admi is not a must for them.My husband kasi is currently working as a senior production manager but he is a graduate of Industrial Education major in Drafting.Nakakahiya man sabihin but he is more qualified than me being an IE. But there is a really big BUT kasi. It is also clearly stated there the large amount of money to bring in for you to support your family when you get there. Kaya nga I asked about the required funds in New Zealand. Grabe, kaya nga you're dreaming to work there.Yun pala maghahagilap ka pa ng malaking pera. And who will trust you enough to lend you such a big amount of money! Anyway, thank you po talaga for all the informations.May God guide us na lang kung saan kami mapupunta.I'll keep you posted.Till next time.Take care...... Wink

Dear Friends,
This is my first time to write on a forum like this and am a little apprehensive if thhis w2ill pass through. I read the messages in this forum and I must say that they fill me with some dread which I have to control. I also want to immigrate to New Zealand in the near future for the same reason why so many other kababayans would like to work abroad - to earn more money to help relatives back here in the Phils. I intend to submit/file my EOI this summer. I hope what happened to Mae does not haqppen to me. Thanks Mae for the information. Confused Right now, I keep on studying so that when I finally apply for my EOI I have impressive things to write on the form which hopefully, will make me marketable. I study a lot these days because I want to b prepared when I finally apply for NZQA and apply for a Teacher's Certificate with the NZTC. I pin almost all my hopes on it. I hope my expectations will not be dashed by NZ authorities because I really work hard for this. I wish us all all the best. I love my country more than anything else but nowadays we have to look for better pastures for the sake of our love ones. I hope NZ people don't feel insecure out of xenophobia because filipinos who work abroad means no harm to anyone. They are just like everyone else trying to eke out a living.
Filipinos may be assertive at times but who wouldn't be if your future and survival is at stake. We can also be very hardworking and trustworthy if you can trust us. It pains me to sometimes encounter negative, discriminatory messages from foreigners about filipinos but in the end, I just entrust these all to my faith in God. Am sorry if this sounds a little sad but you must realize that this is just a response to some of the messages posted in this forum. I hope people who discriminate other races realize the in justice they hold against colored people. Thanks for your time folks.

Very Happy
Maria, I read your horrible exprience(i might say)...with your EOI...it's very Sad sad...anyway...my experience is different from yours...medyo naswertehan namin...

My husband(principal) selected last September 29 from the pool with the points of 105. We have assessed by NZQA back 2001. We only continue the application when the NZIS processing changed last year. He also took the IELTS last 2003 and I also did last November 2004(being a dependent, they require an IELTS result). AFter 3 months of waiting, when i checked my homepage, the status turned decision successful...wow! i am very excited and tensed! I can't believe it! 2 days after, the documents arrived stating that NZIS is inviting us to apply for resident. As of now.... we are preparing for medical check up..the cost per head is P5,900..ay naku ang mahal!! You are right Carrie, kaya nga gustong lumabas ng bansa para kumita..eto you need a large amount of money just to migrate...By the way, I am very much willing to help you..just email me at daisyzabala@hotmail.com...

God Bless!!

daisy

to bong, if you want to work as a teacher, you can also search for a job in the usa. my brother in the phils sent me a text with this message:
E-worldstaffing.com looking for teachers in US. Call (02) 9173000 pasig city.

to daisy, embassy-required medicals are really expensive. kaya nga sabi ko noon, immigration is a big business. if you recvd an invit to apply for perm res, i think it`s really no mistake (cross your fingers!!). i just don't know why my eoi ended up like a dirty messy spaghetti plate. perhaps i'm not really meant for nz. it's my luck that i have a european passport, which allows me to travel almost anywhere in the world without a visa, but i am also willing to return to the phils any time (my husb is not). for that i'm grateful to Him, so i also wish other people to realize their dreams abroad.

all the best to everyone!
