Rolling Eyes

Another "high almighty"..... wannabe.

If you want to help, then just help. No need to praise your own self. It really sounds pathetic.

Hinay lang, mga kabayan.

Helping other Pinoys is completely fine, but bottom line is that skills and qualifications are the first and foremost consideration when looking for a prospective employee.

Informing other Pinoys about an opening in your company is a good way to help. You need the HR manager's approval before you tell other people about it, though.

Also, we should try to be more circumspect in asking a Pinoy in an office you are interested to apply for (who don't know you from Adam) for a recommendation.

Likewise, if we do not know well enough the skills and capacity of the applicant, we have to politely but firmly decline their request for a recommendation - we are not the best persons to gauge their skills and capacity to do the work the position is asking. Doing otherwise could land your ass in hot water later on; worse, giving a recommendation to someone you don't actually know professionally could lose you your job later on if all does not go well.

If we are on the receiving end of that rejection, we should not take it seriously and move on and look for other opportunities having our way.

Kahit saan, kahit kelan, ang mga pinoy hindi talaga magkakaintindihan..nagkakainggitan, nagyayabangan, etc etc etc (pero hindi naman lahat ha)...that is one reason why I dont EVER join filipino communities ANYWHERE!!!I always acknowledge and be always proud of being filipino, but I try not to get sooo personally close with some of our kababayans..anyhoot, if you want to help your fellow pinoy, then just do it.

you got it right....i have meet some pinoy a&sh%l#s (assuming that does not include me) here in wellington who love to flaunt during parties, meeting, dinners, etc....ang daming sinasabi ano? tapos kung panahon na kailangan ng isang pinoy ng tulong (emergency accommodation, pahatid, etc.) aba, biglang naglaho parang bula ng sabong panlaba. Mga anak ng tinamaan, can't even spare a few minutes to send off a student home after all the talk na welcome na welcome/willing na willing silang tumulong, tumawag alng, magsabi lang, etc..... anyways, there are still pinoys around here who really help....like the couple in Island Bay - i think this couple deserves the dangal ng bayan award for they truly help (as in feed, provide shlter to those in need- pay only as much as you can afford for the meantime, etc.)....kaya yung gustong tumulong, kailang tulong talaga, ha? wag yong pasabi sabi lang..kung hindi, ttamman ng karma, mamalasin sa buhay, mag kaka cardiac arrest, magiging abnormal ang mga anak, aksidente, etc.... ang kapalit sa mga nagyayabang lang....

Is there anyone who knows anybody who went to nz with a visitor's visa and was able to convert it legally to work permit/visa. There are consultancy agencies that claim they can do that as long as one is not choosy about the job. The agency said that they have a counterpart in nz to help you look for employment hence your visitor visa will be converted to work permit in a matter of weeks. I just want to know if this is possible as I desperately want to go for it. I will welcome any comments and insights regarding this matter. Thanks!

I did have a visitors visa before and was able to convert it into a work permit after getting a job. My job is to related with my work experience and profession, and is included in the skilled shortage lists.

I think it’s wrong to brag about your wife being a head nurse and whatever your position is in any company. I just wonder why he mentioned these things to you? Did you ask him what his work is or his family status? Was it part of the conversation you were having? Did he just approach you and tell you his family’s circumstances? If you asked him or if it was part of a conversation, I don’t think it’s his responsibility to help your friends for many reasons. To borrow levi’s post as probably one reason:

Likewise, if we do not know well enough the skills and capacity of the applicant, we have to politely but firmly decline their request for a recommendation - we are not the best persons to gauge their skills and capacity to do the work the position is asking. With regards to the other post of meeting some pinoy a&sh%l#s. That I think is uncalled for and unfair—this is my view. First of all, needing an emergency accommodation?—does this happen a lot in Wellington? Do you think Pinoys in NZ (or any other country) are obliged to give emergency accommodation to kapwa Pinoys whether you know them or not? Why was the NZAid student teary eyed when only one good Samaritan offered a send-off? Was he/she expecting a whole barangay to send her off?—that I can’t fathom. When you go to a place you should not expect anything from anybody not unless you paid for it…but be thankful if get offered help for free. There maybe a good Samaritan who wholeheartedly offered a send-off to an NZAid student, but does that give the good Samaritan a right to call those who didn’t help a&sh%l#s? Just a question.

Don’t get me wrong , I’m not defending the mayayabangs and matapobres. It’s bad to be mayabang but let them be judged accordingly.

and who the F^&k is the good Samaritan you are talking about? I'm curious because I do not consider myself as a Samaritan , or good for that matter.

you obviously don't know what's going on.

obliged?--no one is obliged. but when one announces his/her willingness to offer help (albeit in a superficial manner) but fails to do so when many situations called for it.....I can only say what an ass$ol#!
