Hi,
Will be hiring a camper van for 6 days in the South Island, I know its not for long but wanted to know what routes and places to see I could fit in during these 6 days?
Some websites just tell you about coach trips and and tours but obviously I already have a set of wheels, just need to know where to go and how long it will take
Any help will be much appreciated guys! |

hi,
why don't you have a look at the routes of all the tourist buses so you can figure out the main attractions? thats what we did. rented a sleepervan had allok at the major tourist bus routes and had a great time and cheap transport

Hi,
I've only been researching my trip for a week and come across this site. Seems to have everything I need.
I'm pretty much have the same sort of question as Stretch . I have 10 days out of a busy schedule. I figure the south Island is the best. I have also decided on a camper van - simply because it's cheeper. But I've got to find out where you can park and what about taking showers going for a pee etc.
So any help on special stops - good bars, food etc, as well as help with the route would help. There must be that expert out there!! |

Hi Macca, there are a number of free places where you can park up, but they don't have any showers or toilets and with tourism increasing every year the amount of "no camping/parking for the night" signs are also increasing. I plan on getting a page up listing the ones I know about, but I have alot on my plate at the momment.
There are payed DoC run campsides scattered through out the country, have a look at http://www.doc.govt.nz/templates/summary.aspx?id=38354 other than that you will need to stay at privately owned camping grounds. |
