Hi, im new to this site and was wondering if any one had specific info on the Mongrel Mob, as ive seen on tv and read about this gang and was terrified by what i saw.I hope one day to move from UK to NZ, and bring my family with me. I was told that they only occupy North NZ, as i prefere the South. Could anyone tell me if this is true please, ta. xx.

Hi angelhaze, I seen my first Mongrel Mob member in Wanganui for the first time in years. I wouldn't worry about them the media tend to hype gangs up.

Don't worry about the gangs over here, it is no worse by any means than England, I know because I have lived in both countries, probably half and half (London/Auckland). While living in London I showed a few people the 'Once were Warriors' movie, although it holds some bearing on a certain lifestyle in some areas of New Zealand it is not the norm at all. New Zealand is an amazing beautiful place and I am sure you will be very happy here, just as I am.

Take care and good luck coming over here. Very Happy

I have been in NZ for some 12 months now and live in Northland, Whangarei to be exact. Most of my friends are Maori, and even better than that my partner is Maori too. The Maori people are for the vast majority loving genuine people who are kind and honest. Even the youngsters who do seem to follow the American gang culture with their music, cars and clothes are pretty cool, but like everywhere you have your minority of idiots. The mongrel mob are a bit odd, they find it cool to wear the swastika..symbol of right wing white power, and argue for black power................in reality pakiha and Maori get on well and again it all seems so American. Get out here its beautiful and the chances of seeing any violence is remote.

Kia Ora angelhaze,
As you can tell from the posts there is a bit of rivallry from Mongrel mob and Black power members! At Rangatira ( chief or leader) level the two gangs are starting t work together to deliver better social and economic outcomes for grass roots gang members and prospects ( gang wannabes)
The "problems" with gangs are overstated and media hyped. As in most countries the majority of "gang crime" is peer to peer. I have enjoyed positive interaction with members of both MMM and BP ovr the years and have counted some as good friends.
New Zealand is amongst the safest countries in the world and the Maori are a proud and noble race, not to mention some of the most genuine and friendly people on the planet.

How embarrassing when people with gang associations start to use this site. Didn't know they could use a computer. Bet you didn't pay for it?

Anglehaze. The best part about the gangs, despite their entrenched position in NZ crime is that they really arent that smart. You see, you can spot them and keep out of their way. One writer pointed out that Gisborne/Napier is a hot bed for the Mongrel Mob and Black Power activtities. Apart from there, you will rarely see any of these guys, and remember, You will see them by their distinctive gang colours (black and red for Mongrel Mob, Blue and black for Black Power). This helps the NZ police tremendously too. You should also be reassured that legislation is currently tabled to outlaw such gangs, and I understand mandatory sterilisation of gang reoffenders is also being considered. What ever te next Govt of NZ, law and order will be high priority and the gangs will suffer considerably. PS Your concern about Seeign a gang member in NZ is like me coming to your country an dexpectign to see a bowler hat - both are rare.

Just want to say my peice, this whole gang aspect is in terms like anything gang related is well "dumb",do you think any gang member be they Mongerl mob or Black power don't really care what you fools say on here or any website for that matter, having worked with the Gang task force here in australia , life to them is just about live day to day, they all have familys and life there life they way they want like every one esle in the world, be it they wear red or blue colours, unless you know gang members you really can not judge them, some of you might have family in gangs and might have frist hand ezpernice in gang life.

but New zealand isn't just bout gangs , it offers much more then as the term states "THUGLIFE".......

Ps... Theres a term we have in the GTF (gang task force) "PC Gangsta"
meaning anyone that writes on these here sites are just young innoccent junviles wishing to join the patched socity, not fully understanding the life of the "Patch Few" or as we call it here in Australia the "!%er life".

These white people in New Zealand don't know jack!! when it comes to maori issues, most of them not all, just don't want to know what maori people go through here in Aotearoa. Most white people in NZ live in a fantasy world and just because their lives are ruled by money and have taken all the ggod things of this country and use it to gain from maori uneducation. NOW! I don't support gangs or defend them, but what I will say is that most maori who join these gangs is because they want to feel part of something, because white NZ say they want everyone to be one and get on, but whan it comes to the crunch, Oh it' the next fellas problem. Maori people are really good people when you get to know them, and we are all not gangsters or drug dealers or thiefs, when you are forced into poverty by white oppressors who only worry about their own skins and their own countrymen, whats a man to do? to those people on this site who say NZ is a beautiful country they are right, but ask them what TANGATA MAORI means and they wouldn 't even know and How long have they been here. They don't want to know us, and why are they judging us all the time, the biggest crooks here in NZ is the white collar ones who have shocking statistics when it comes to fraud, paedophilia and taken advantaged of the under priviledged. Maori have been classed as a third world people in a first class society, so youn tell me hwy we have problems in this country.

Hey, the guy who started this thread wanted to know if it was a good idea to move here because of the gangs. Let me tell you mate that the people who have posted replies to you are just complete idiots, supporting the saddest, most pathetic gangs - Mongrel mob and the black power.
These people don't need to be the way they are. The NZ govt pours so much money into their tribes, they just dont have any self control, and are selfish to their core.
The Maori people in general expect everything given to them, and expect to do very little in return. Remember this if you come here.
Out of anyone in this country, they will treat you with the least respect.
The gangs are a problem here - when people say "You never see them.. " etc. its when you do that you should be worried. One incident comes to mind where a friends car was stopped at a roundabout after she pulled the finger ( because the driiver of the other car sped well over 80 in a 50k zone, overtook them at the roundabout entrance.)
He hopped out of his car and threatened to break her finger off, amongst other things. Her feeling was the only reason he didnt proceed with the threat was because it was in broad daylight in front of many witnesses.
You will always hear about the plight of the maori people and how hard done by they are - this s COMPLETE RUBBISH. You will find out when you live here, you will become a second rate citizen.
The Maori people have the highest rates of: Domestic Violence (I have witnessed a maori woman being savagely punched to the head by a maori man) Smoking related illnesses, Gambling addiction, Alcohol problems, child abuse/neglect, ETC ETC... and yet they get so many more benefits and opportunities than every other New Zealander.
They can blame white mans arrival until the end of time, and they probably will, but one day if they wish to change they will have to take some responsibility for their own lives.
I have been living in nz for 24 years, i live in a city crawling with mobsters, they are rapists, thugs, and complete deviants. I have many weapons secured around my house because the pain of what those guys could do to my family outweighs the implications of killing one of them.
Just being as brutally honest as I can.

Who ever you are the man that posted that reply to the person who wanted to move to wairoa this is for you. I am a Maori an have been brought up on the marae and for me and many others its because of people like you who make the maori people have very little respect for people like you.You have absolutey no idea what maoris have had to go through and you are also stereotyping our race. Its not only maoris that do this type of thing its many others to so next time you go to put us down think about what your saying because if you really feel this much hate for us what are you doing in Aotearoa this is the land of the maori.

You really need help!!! And for you the person who wanted to move to wairoa go hard its a really lovely place and the gangs are just the same in any other part of New Zealand.Shame on you u stupid man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Kei te tu whakahihi koe i runga i te whenua o nga maori. Eki Eki!!!!!!!
