My hubby has recently received a job offer in NZ. We haven't processed our visa yet when we receive this latest email from the agency in NZ (Radius International)

"We have been informed that due to restrictions that have been put in place by the Philippine Government it has now become impossible for New Zealand companies to hire staff direct from the Philippines. All Candidates must now go through an Accredited Recruitment/Immigration company in the Philippines in order to get their Work Visas processed and approved. Radius International has now become affiliated with an Accredited organisation call MRH who will be contacting. you in regards to your offer with NZ Comms to process your Visa. They will take over from here and handle everything."

Our concern is that instead of applying the visa ourselves, we have to go thru an agency and they might charge us exorbitant fees. Is this really the new rule regarding direct hire?

Thanks guys!

Yeah I think so. I think a lot of people are abusing the direct hiring rule so the government is doing its best to protect migrants from unscrupulous employers, but in my humble opinion this is way too much interference from the government.

The rule I think is primarily aimed at protecting our migrant workers in the middle east, but this has become a hassel to others who are migrating to labor-friendly countries such as new zealand.

I think additional costs on your side is a foregone conclusion, I'm afraid. Good luck though.

Thanks levi.

I guess we can only hope and pray that we won't have to pay excessive fees to the agencies.

Try to contact POEA to verify the claim of the agency if its really true. Also, contact immigration new zealand or via center regarding this new process. I've been granted work visa last june. Is the job offer of your hubby comes directly from the employer or from a NZ AGENCY?

Hi allanz_kie

The offer comes directly from the employer but this employer has a NZ agency, an arm which deals with HR related issues of expats or foreign-based employees.

You're right. We'll contact the POEA first. Thank you!Smile

Ask POEA if this NZ agency has a correspondent Philiipine agency. As what i know, you can only be a name hire (direct hire) if your employer has no agency in the philippines. In your case where the NZ agency act as your recruiter and if they have an agency in the Philippines(check w/ poea), then you will have to process in that Philippine agency.

Contact also the agency "Radius international", the agency emailed you i supposed, regarding the processing fees, placement, medical etc.. so that you can calculate if it is fare enough or too much

Just an advise. Hope this will help.

No, Radius International did not ask for any fee at all. They just told us that we cannot process the visa by ourselves. As per Philippine Government's new rule, we have to go thru the accredited agency in the Philippines to process our visa. Since Radius International has become affiliated with MRH (a Philippine accredited recruitment agency), they're directing us to them or rather MRH will be contacting us.

We'll just wait and see how much MRH will be charging us for our visa processing.

Thanks for your inputs!

Hi ej,

I have actually been shortlisted by MRH for a position. I applied in June, and they shortlisted me in July and had me send my CV through email. I called them up a few weeks later but they said that I would have to wait until the employer evaluated my CV. But I haven't heard from them until now, so I don't know. There's no job order for the position in the POEA website.

Do update me if your husband's application is successful.
