Hi there to all...
I would like to ask from you guys here in this forum about my long term plan. I am a chemist, 26 yrs old from Philippines. I already started preparing my migration application to Oz last year. I had 6.5 overall bandscore of ielts but i had 2 5.5 score in writing and reading modules. I didnt able to pass the english requirements which is 6 in all modules. I already finished my assessment and got positive result, meaning suitable for migration. I am now in doubts if I will continue my Oz plan or shift to NZ because my ielts is within nz requirements which is 6.5 overall bandscore. If possible, I dont like to take ielts again.
From your experiences and ideas about NZ migration, Would I be able to make nz migration? Please share your ideas. Heres my qualification:
Age: 26
Sex: Male
Educational Attainment: BS Agricultural Chemistry with PRC License
Years of work exp: 4 years going to 5 in line with my profession. I have 2 yrs up to date work exp abroad in Saudi Arabia.
Civil Status: Single
I am looking on the internet about job opening but they prefer local or with working visa. I always get negative replies.
Any inputs regarding my situation is highly appreciated. My email is posted here.
Best regards and thank you,

Your qualifications sounds good on paper, save for a few things:
1. Where did you finish schooling? UP, La Salle, Ateneo or UST? If none of the above, then you will have far fewer points in terms of educational attainment. You either have to submit more documents (like a PAR or QAR) to claim the highest level of points available for educational attainment if you have not received a college degree from the ones I have mentioned.
2. Though you have now 5 years work experience and at least 2 in saudi arabia, you might be only able to claim points for the three years work experience, not those in saudi.
That is because new zealand immigration only consider work experience in certain countries with comparable labor markets like new zealand, and saudi arabia is not listed as a country with a comparable labor market (but luckily the Philippines is listed).
3. I am not sure but I think ielts have a very very short shelf life. Please correct me if I am wrong but I think ielts are valid for two years. If you shift your migration plans to nz would your ielts still be valid when immigration nz would require you to take it? Or will your application take longer than expected and as a consequence, your ielts will not be valid during that time?
I suggest you click this link for a more detailed explanation of the nz skilled migration process:
http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/stream/work/skilledmigrant/overview/
Also, some points to ponder: I am not sure about Australian immigration but here in new zealand, filipinos are not given permanent residency right away through skilled migration.
Instead, immigration will defer your application for residency, and will give you a 9 month work visa within which to look for work here in nz that matches your skills and work experience before they act upon your application for residency. So bottom line is, look for work before residency. Some of us do get lucky, but please remember that some don't and have no other choice but to go back to the Philippines.
Hope this helps. Good luck. |

In my humble opinion, not necessarily. True, people are paid more in Aus than in NZ but the Aussies didn't give you a higher salary out the goodness of their hearts. May kapalit din yan (there is a catch).
It can be longer working hours, or longer hours of commute. The nearest suburb in Sydney CBD is two hours far - one way! (According to the tour guide) that suburb is popular because that's the most affordable one. Housing prices for a starter home in Sydney CBD is $1 million.
I also heard of Pinoys rearing to go to Aus the minute they got their NZ passports only to *gasp* return to New Zealand.
It is all a matter of what you want in life. Since the original poster is single I think he is better off in Australia, but for families with young children, NZ is slightly better. |

Hi there!
I happen to see that you have a dilema on this. I assume you are doing your own application? Not all the information you need is in the internet. You might need to be assessed by an immigration consultant for professional help. IELTS is not that difficult. You are close to your desired band scores in each component. All you need to do perhaps is to enrol in a review class... If it is really your first time to take the test, and you didnt have an orientation about it, then you might be surprised that you feel you did a great job during the exam but still didnt get your desired average grade... I suggest to take a review... Australia is a promising country for Filipino migrants... I dont know about New Zealand though... Me and my sister are from UST, my sis is a chemist and she is planning for migration to OZ, there is no points discrimination there... but we are included in Section1 of accredited schools, along with UP, Ateneo and LaSalle indeed, but there are others as well... you have to check it out... In New Zealand, I dont know how they point test there but if there would be discrimination there, then i suggest you pursue OZ...
did i help? haha.... |
