Heyo i am planning on doing some backpacking at the end of august-early sept and was wondering if anyone had any tips, itineraries, and helpful tips for a solo backpacker. i have alot of hiking experience, im a studying geologist, and also 22 in decent shape. i will be just ending a workterm and will have 4 months of traving done. so any recommendations on places to go see, and how i can fit it all in 3 weeks would be deadly.
Cheers

Hi newfie, I would recommend going through the AA travels 101 must does. 3 weeks isn't really enough but if i was in your shoes I would spend at least 2 weeks in the South Island and a week in the North, maybe head to the start of the Milford or Routeburn tracks and doing a few day walks in the area. You could also spend 3-5 days walking the Abel Tasman track as it will be a good time to walk it during those months when it isn't very busy http://www.doc.govt.nz/templates/trackandwalk.aspx?id=36215
