| I've been reading lots of posts and forum regarding nurses in NZ. My husband is a filipino nurse. We heard the good news in NZ regarding filipino nurses, he submit his CV right away to DHB. He's required to register and take up bridging program. After the 6-week course they need to take exams? I just want to know if there is a pass or fail score? |

An RN from the Phils. must meet the NZ nursing council's requirement for English (e.g.ielts w/ no score below 7 in all areas) and undergo the competence assessment programme (bridging course) at any of their accredited institutions before he/she can be registered and practice as an RN in NZ. The course length varies from one institute to another. A friend took it at unitec for 6 wks. I talked to him personally recently when he came home for his vacation. He said there was no exam after the course completion. He just mentioned that they were required to make a nursing care plan. He even said there was no need to bring books. Same feedback (thru chat) from another friend who took it at MIT early this year. He also said that there was no final exam. I just hope this won't change COZ I'M TAKING THE COURSE IN 2 MOS. TIME!! (am crossing my fingers & even my toes!). you can visit www.nursingcouncil.org.nz for details on RN registration in NZ.
Cheers! |

| thank you for the reply. after the bridging course did your friends went back to manila or they found work right away? Kasi iniisip namin mag asawa coz if ever he will be given student or visitors visa, its only valid for 3 months. Anu kaya yun, naituloy ba nila na makahanap ng work o bumalik pa sila dito? Nasabi ba nila sayo how much lahat ng expenses nila? |

thank you charlie..i really need lady luck on my side!
after the course, my friends waited for the practising cert.from the nrsg. council & then filed for their working visa. they didn't come home anymore. one of them was offered work while still undergoing the training (that's how in demand nurses are in nz!). the other one was recruited by the gov't hospital where he took his hospital exposure. this friend was handled by an agent & he said he shelled out around half a million Php!! the previous one did it on his own so definitely he spent way less than the other one.
NZIS said you can extend your visa there. you can also visit their website at immigration.govt.nz for more info (you can post questions too).
thanks again. |

Wow, congrats in advance on your trip to NZ. May we ask which visa to apply after enrollment at the Uni.
Student Visa or Visitors Visa?
Thanks and have a nice day. |

after acceptance from the institute in NZ, you now apply for a visitor visa (that's what you apply for if your reason for going there is to undergo the CAP w/c is uusually less than 3 mos.)
thank you too.. |

Are they not going to stamp limited purpose visitors visa with no further stay on your passport? |

|

1. birth certificate- secure an original copy and have it authenticated at dfa
2. passport- xerox the first page of your passport(showing your picture) and last page... at the back of the xerox copy have it notarized by an attorney or notary public
3. board certificate- have it xeroxed then metered stamp at prc... accomplish the pink form "for dfa".. submit the form, xerox copy and the original certificate to prc.. they will forward it to dfa for releasing
birth and board certificate will be released with a red ribbon. have them authenticated at the nz embassy. P1550 per document. Call the embassy first regarding the schedule of authentication as they only entertain for certain days and time of the day. (i think wed and fri 10-11am only, pls check this first)
no need to go to malacanang.. this process has been phased out since april 2007.. dfa will process your documents without it.. your notarized passport do not need authentication in the dfa and nz embassy..
once completed send this to the nursing council indicating your reference number in your envelope..
good luck! |

Hi,
What's the total cost for all these procedures regarding registration in NZ?
How much do I need to cover all this expenses including the stay in NZ for less than 3mos?
Do I have a big chance of finding a job in NZ even if I still don't have any job experience?
Pls. help me with these..
Thank you. |

nz dollar= 31.5 php
the application fee is= 465 nzd
ielts= P8940
authentication of docs in nz embassy= P1500/doc (birth cert and board cert)
airfare= around 60K PHP via quantas
training as an international student= 4500 NZD
student visa/ visitors visa= P4000
pocket money and living expenses= depends on the city...
it will be upon your descretion if you will pay all this by yourself or would have an agency to finance you. but i suggest you do all the paper works on your own. you can really do it by reading carefully and asking questions here in the forum. it will save you a lot!
quite costly but the process of going to nz is easier than going to US.
work experience of a least 3 months for nursing council registration. In the application process, you would need to pass a CV indicating your post graduate experience. This can be hospital, school, industrial or community nursing. Also, a professional reference would have to be submitted by your senior nurse in your workplace as another requirement. trainings and volunary work are considered work experience.
However, employers usually seek nurses with at least 1 year experience. less than 1 year experience are considered beginning nurses and would have to undergo a certain training program depending on the hospital. if you are lucky, the hospital where you will have your clinical rotation during the course will hire you. otherwise, nursing homes are not as choosy and will accept less than 1yr experience.
good luck! |

hi.
just wanted to ask if where did you hear about the 3 months work experience requirement prior to registration?
there is no mention of it in the "information to register as a nurse in NZ" at their website.
i have emailed them regarding the professional recommendation if the applicant is not employed & they said a nursing tutor recommendation would suffice.
thanks for any clarifications you can provide. |
