I plan to let Golden Summit to process my papers. I just hope that I'm doing the right thing.

You'll be doing the right thing if you know the nursing registration requirements. If you don't have the required work experience, then you'll be wasting your time, money and effort.

The reason why some got negative results when going thru an agency is because they are not qualified for nursing registration.

good day! i have been living in auckland for 3 years now as a RN in the country's biggest hospital.

i have several friends who have been with golden summit for their processing.

they all got here and paid for all their expenses as sponsorship to date is very rare because job opportunities for nurses are at an all time low.

there are job listings but even new zealand nursing graduates are having a hard time securing for jobs so most rest home companies which are the no. 1 cap sponsors namely BUPA and OCEANIA have stopped their CAP sponsorship programs.

bupa does not deal with golden summit. you have to apply with them online and you will be assigned in rest homes in far flung areas of nz where their are more cows than people. i personally know friends in these places signed up with BUPA.

oceania is affiliated with golden summit unfortunately oceania is a smaller company compared to BUPA but still nation-wide in nz and they have stopped sponsorships.

so your only choice is to come here and pay for your own cap and application but the good thing with this is you will not be tied up with any agency and you can apply to all available job listing you can find and in any area you want.

the only disadvantage will be when you get here you will have no job security lately it has taken cap graduates a min. of 2 months to find jobs and those with the highest experience are the usual ones that find employment easily.

if you just pass the bare minimum requirement then it is quite hard and most have to extend their tourist visas.

also know that golden summit is the company responsible for sending a lot of filipinos in nz as IELTS or english students. they are the same company from cebu that sent those filipinos that died on the christchurch earthquake on feb. 2011 under the CTV building. all they offered as help was a mass.

i personally know a student from the ctv building with golden summit that survived the earthquake and golden summit didn't bother to call her after the earthquake and/or help her find employment as a caregiver when she got to nz despite the promise that they will help them find a part time job.

so

1. you can get here to nz with golden summit.
2. they are not reliable in terms of follow up. when you get most likely you are on your own.
3. they can not do what you can not do yourself.
4. the cost with golden summit is almost 500,000 pesos.. i don't know what the dude from an earlier post saying that he only paid 100,000 pesos to them and that is his salary for 2 weeks. i have been in nz for 3 years..i am a permanent resident and i am a level 2 step 5 nurse with an exchange rate of 34 pesos to 1 nzd...i still don't get 100,000 in 2 weeks. so i think that guy is lying or is with the agency.
5. CAP tuition is at least 5000nzd x 34 exchange rate, you pay about 500 nzd for nursing council approval, at least 70,000 pesos for plane tickets (you need a return ticket unless specifically waived by your visa officer). golden summit fee is about 50,000...that is their cut in all of these.
so i don't know how that guy did his math.
6. golden summit can not apply you to more than 4 schools in which they are affiliated with and in each schools they are only given about 10 slots and most schools only have a class size of 30 or less.
7. most cap schools are already full for 2011 and 2012 have a long waiting list already. i know this for a fact as my sibling was suppose to come here as a nurse but got lucky and found a better job than a being a nurse!

if you want to save... you can do it yourself..apply on your own and do not go through an agency.

one of their agent.. we have a common friend and this is what she told me.. they have so many applicants that they do not know how to find schools for all of them before their nursing council approvals will expire and extension are rarely given already by nursing council.

and she also said that now most of them are "banking" on courses that send filipino nurses here as students but this can cost you about 10,000 nzd for tuition alone without an assurance that you will ever land a job, a nursing council approval or even a cap school...for that fee you could apply for australia as a nurse and complete their bridging course!!!

if you are planning to come to nz..better do your research.

i have several friends that have worked in a rest home and are finding it hard to secure a hospital job that most have opted to move to australia which is actually a good move considering that finding jobs in nz is very very hard specially for spouses who are in the non-medical fields.

thank you for this post, it really answered alot of confusing questions that have been bugging me ever since I was approved by the nursing council, my nz letter will be expiring this year and still no cap in sight, my agency here in the phils is only after the fees they collect when you sign up with them after that you are on your own, as in we literally apply for the cap,and now worse the so-called sponsorship is down the drain, so many who have waited so long have to give it up because of the expenses, and the agency is just sitting pretty not even worried that our cap is expiring, and they have ads in jobstreet like everyday enticing nurses but no promise of ever getting them there, its like winning the lotto, the odds of getting an offer of place is the same, jesus, and so now the problem is will we ever get to nz, i was enlightened by your post, helped me alot to decide if i will still pursue 'the dream'
