1.there is water lack in new zealand like in australia?
or because of the more cold weather there is enough water?
i've heard the australia has lack of water.
2. how more fertile is the land in new zealand compared to australia?
3. does almost all of the produce (fruits and vegetables) grown in the country or imported?
how well paid are the workers that work on that compared to other places? and who they are? they are cheap foreigns(?)? |

Hi there and welcome to Pinoy2NZ. I myself am new here in this website and feeling like answering all i can answer! hahaha!
No, there is no lack of water in NZ. Australia had water shortage the least few months due to unusual weather, lack of rainfall and bush fires. New Zealand, fortunately, has plenty of water.
New Zealand soil is very good for agriculture as this country is formed by volcanoes. We grow most of the fruits here and export a lot of them. However, we also import fruits from other countries that we don't grow here or when a particular fruit is not in season here but is in season in another country.
Agricultural work and fruit-pickers are normally from NZ. Fruit-picking jobs are offered first to the people who are on benefits (people who are so poor they depend on government hand-outs). But most of them refuse, and so the recruit elsewhere and even offered the job offshore due to shortage of workers here. Hence, the Immigration New Zealand created the "Seasonal Work" category.
How much they are paid? I am not really sure but rate is good enough for seasonal workers to live here and save up money until the season is over.
I hope this info helps.
Regards,
Maria |

Depends on which area of Australia you're talking about. As you know Australia is mostly desert. Cities are mostly near the coastlines.

What the heck is Pinoy2NZ? ummm welcome to Backpack New Zealand. Water is fine occasionally there will be a water shortage but no where near the scale of Australia, I remember Auckland had a big shortage in 93 or 94 where there were heavy restrictions. We get more rainfall and have more rivers and lakes (with water in them ) than Australia, New Zealand has a totally different geography. If you are travelling around it is ok to drink out of most rivers and tap water is just as good as bottled water. Yeah the land in New Zealand is also generally more fertile, lots of rich volcanic soil. We generally grow our own temperate fruits and vegatables, but mainly import citrus and tropical fruits and veges, we do grow some citrus in Kerikeri (Northland) but the quality is no where near as good as Australian. Agricultural workers I can only compare to Australia and in Australia you can earn quite a bit more, most of the seasonal workers are a mixture of New Zealanders, travellers and immigrants, there is strict pay laws in New Zealand so "cheap foreigners" dosn't really apply. |

That was succinct and nicely said, Garry . You could put it in better words than me. Wish I have the same gift.
