speaking of cars and driving, issue dito ang asian drivers (as in di daw maruning mag-drive ang asians). It doesn't help na kamakailan me nabistong sindikato na nagbebenta ng lisensya. kadalasan involve mga chinese galing sa china.
Anyway, as for driving on the other side of the road, kung wala ka sa auckland, most roads dalawang lanes lang naman so isipin mo lang palagi ikaw dapat nasa side ng divider. Ang medyo kaka-iba lang yung give way nila pag-nag-left ka sa intersection. kasi pag yung opposite mo mag-ra-right, dapat gi-give-way ka sa kanya. |

hi there! i'm sure that everyone in this forum would be interested to learn from NZ_IT's experience in getting a job in nz in two weeks. i have specific questions id like to ask NZ_IT. i hope she doesn't mind.
how did you learn about the company who hired you?
did you just walk in or were you referred by someone?
during your two-week stay as tourist in nz, how many companies did you approach? thru email/letter? thru phone call? how many gave you the chance to be interviewed?
what kind of questions did the job interviewer ask?
what do you think is the key factor that made them hire you even if they weren't looking at that time?
i'm delightedly surprised that you were just 23 then. did you graduate with honors? from what university? (you don't have to answer if you don't want to)
thank you so much NZ_IT! mabuhay ka! btw, are you in auckland or wellington? _________________ "The cautious man travels early in the morning. And the early morning traveller reaches his destination. - Hadith, Words of the Prophet Muhammad" |

hi i'm new to this forum, and super naaaliw naman ako sa mga messages and how everyone is helping each other... shempre, sali din ako. i wanna help too as much as i can.
leoce, sa IT din ang husband ko. we migrated to nz last year and we're living in wellington now. ano bang specialisation mo? ang masasabi ko lang, most financial and IT industries have their headquarters here in wellington, and some do branch out to Christchurch to cover support for the South Island. Yung manufacturing industries naman like food and pharma mostly are based in (or near) Auckland, shempre may IT din naman sila... subscribe ka kaya sa www.seekit.com.au to give you an idea kung saan madalas may opening. I notice that dami nangangailangan ng test analysts here in wellington... but i really have to warn you 'bout the weather here. Auckland does have a more favorable weather, and I guess there's more hustle and bustle there (really can't say 'coz i've never been there). Here in Wellington, when the news say that it's gonna be 16 or 18 degrees, don't expect na kayang-kaya mo yon kasi ganun naman temp ng aircon mo... aangal ka cgurado kasi madalas na anglakas ng wind dito.
to banjan, re your question whether your family will survive on a single income, I definitely say you can kasi maraming families ang nasa ganung situation. but if both u and ur wife decide to work, meron namang childcare facilities and nanny services. Childcare may cost up to nz$200 per week (or nz$45/day if parttime). If you're worried about the living costs here, medyo mahal nga pero kahit na marami sa 'min ang single-income families, we can still afford to live in nice homes and enjoy a little luxury like travel to australia (pag may sale ng airfares, he, he).
some families naman receive some housing and childcare allowance from the gov't, depending on your annual salary range and number of kids... just visit www.workingforfamilies.govt.nz to see the benefits. i actually know someone who is working in mcdonald's as kitchen crew and he's got three kids, pero maganda and malaki yung house (3-bedrm) na nire-rent nila and was able to buy a second-hand car. i think he's getting about (or at least) a hundred dlrs a wk fr the govt for accommodation. |

Hi Mrs_H:

Kung ma-uuna ang isa sa inyo, then you can stay in a backpackers place first (kung natitipid). Reason why is mas mabuti talaga kung kayo ang mamili, makakita at makapag-compare ng flats. I know of friends na nagkakagalit kasi yung isa pinahanap ng flat tapos pagdating di nagustuhan nung isa. Pagdating niyo dito, you can search for rental places sa newspaper (unfortunately, I don't know of a web resource that's as good and has as much listing as the newspaper).
And just to add to Mrs_H excellent post, most government assistance are accessible to migrants only after 2 years of living in NZ (so do prepare to support yourselves in the first two years)... |
