if u got a degree from a NZ university and ur skill is in the essential skills category - u may apply for silver fern. i heard the PR visa sticker comes with a footlong silver fern that is inserted in your passport - isn't that chic? but then again, that's what i heard ...could be wrong...

based from what i read, it is offered to all skilled persons outside nz and only 300 are accepted globally on an annual basis. this is being offered to me right now as acceptance of applications will open on apr 27. the visa entitles the holder to visit nz for 6 months to look for a job. im just not sure if my corporate finance background of 6 years would qualify me for this, im advised not to disclose my MBA degree. i have to decide soon but then again i might not be selected, sayang naman ung money na ibabayad ko.. ah, then what you've read is right - what I've heard is wrong. perhaps time now to get a hearing aid.

is the banking/investment industry in nz open for career opportunities as of the moment or in the coming months/years based on the country's current economic situation?

For unrestricted visitor visa holders, yes, there is no impediment to look for a job.

But, as is obvious, to hold on to that job, there must be an employee willing to sponsor your application for work visa.

I need help too.. My plan is to secure a Tourist Visa first here in the Philippines, find a decent job and hopefully become an immigrant.. Has anyone done this before? What is the success rate?

You may not get a job because you are a tourist. You have no work visa. But if you still pursue, I have a space in my house to accomodate you. Ang mauna sya makakakuha ng space sa aming bahay.

to start over... i am a filipino. me and my husband are planning to migrate to new zealand, the best place we have thought about so far. but we really have no idea on how to do so... is there anyone who can help us? suggest some websites, personal advise, experiences, how long will it take and stuffs like that. unfortunately we don't have any friend or relative in new zealand so we're really are finding it hard to pursue the plan. we're both graduates and into IT jobs (more on hardware). any response will be so much appreciated. tnx so much! God Bless!

For those who are coming here in Auckland. I have a small room ready for accomodation. This is a first come first serve. Gusto ko rin makatulong sa mga kababayan natin. I would be free or a very small amount of rent.

Hi, i'm interested in renting your vacant room. I plan to move to Auckland this year kapag naayos ko ang formalities ng registration ko sa board dyan sa NZ. Please e-mail details like magkano, location (kahit nearby landmarks ok na po para magka-idea lang ako ng distance sa preferred hospital ko). Please e-mail details to: octobionic@gmail.com
I'll be waiting for your reply. Salamat po and see you!

what's wrong with jobs like cleaning or department store check out operators? if you think of these jobs as "low", I don't think you should be coming here in NZ. For NZ is a country that does not treat these jobs as 'low' nor judge people based on their jobs. these may be low-paying jobs, but decent NZ people do not treat these jobs as 'low' the same way we treat and look down on janitors and street sweepers in a third world country like the Philippines. If you would like to be in NZ and succeed, you should leave that crappy attitude behind and learn to treat people for being wonderful individuals they are regardless of what they do. in fact, ur post is even offensive for I was once a cleaner before I got the job I wanted - looking back, If I will have to do it again - I will - for if I am capable of brushing 15 toilet bowls in one night to achieve my long-term goal - then I know I am well prepared (matured) physically, emotionally and mentally to meet the challenges ahead to reach my goal/s. If I can vacuum clean five 500 sq.m. offices every day, I can vacuum clean all the barriers in my journey in life to clear the way towards success. That 'bey is called positive attitude that you can't buy from anywhere else. That positive attitude will ensure your survival anywhere, no matter what life may bring.

to answer your question - getting a job you like in NZ is a multivariate factor - a combination of preparation, skills, hard work, luck, timing, God's grace, location, and network, amongst others. in other words, no body can really tell ahead of time what kind of job you may end up with. my attitude has always been to grab every opportunity, never stop looking, until you have achieved your goal/s and satisfy the desires of your heart. but looking through my lens, your attitude/outlook needs a lot of fixin' so you will keep on goin'.

I am not saying that there is something wrong with low level jobs sir I was only asking the possibilities of me being able to get something else. That was a very innocent question and I think you being offended sa post na yan is your problem. I guess its just not me that has an attitude. I admire your dedication to do well, but you don't know me enough to tell me that I have a VERY NEGATIVE ATTITUDE. I am no way criticizing people working in these areas as well, even here in the Philippines, I know how to respect people regardless of what they do; and that I think makes me a decent person, too.

Thanks for the tips about the RIGHT ATTITUDE of getting a job there. You're right at the part of grabbing every opportunity to succeed, that applies wherever you are in the world, but you're lens is too judgmental. You judging me that fast is also offensive.

I thought the purpose of this forum is to openly discuss things about NZ and job opportunities there, not merely evaluating people of their qualifications. I got no idea of what to expect thats' why I am asking to weigh things down, I know very well and I have claimed that I have no valuable experience at all, Im only 19 and I just graduated, but my aunt is insisted thats' why Im wondering what to do. But anyway, thanks!

hello,

newbie here..I got an aunt in NZ, resident na siya dun, she told me the possibility of starting our with low-level jobs when I get there, Im a fresh grad with no valuable experience at all. though my aunt can back me up gusto ko sana ma-weigh things before I decide going there. is it possible to at least get a nice job such as a store cashier or stuff, or uber low level talaga ang available for us..?

thanks guys!

The big question is: with you having no skill nor 'valuable experience' how will you be able to come here to New Zealand?

I know sir, but my aunt was very insistent for me to go there this early, she said it doesn't matter whatever my experience was. I got a good paying job here in the Phils. but I know that opportunities there are way better, thats why I said Im weighing things down.

thanks.

Chances are, you will get a "menial" job here at the start. But you have one thing going for you. Your youth. OK lang ang magstart sa mababa as you have all the time in the world to work your way up. It's not like you're 40 yrs old, right? Of course, that is all contingent on the assumption that NZ society is, at its core, a just society where anyone regardless of race, religion or gender is given a fair shot. That is an assumption that may or may not be true, but is well beyond the scope of this topic.

Oh yeah, pagpasensyahan mo na lang si wellington buddy. I think the guy actually believes he is white. Little Brown Brother syndrome.
