Greetings everyone!! I'm heading to NZ for just 8 days this April. I know it isn't a lot of time at all, but we're trying to make the best of it. We're (my g/f and I) going to Australia first for 7 days, then flying over to NZ with one of my g/f friends that is studying abroad in Sydney. We're going to stay for 8 days.
We trying to figure out which is the best choice: A packeged trip offered by a travel agency type of place or doing it ourselves. We would like the freedom to individualize our trip, but we might be able to see more if we if we have them plan it for us. We don't know what all there is to see and we'd hate to miss someting really good. Any ideas? We'd like to see as much as possible. We want to see some good city stuff and do some stuff out in nature (I know, it's vage). She's heard to stay on the south island if we have limited time. ANy ideas or experiences?? Thanks in advance! |

Hi Cling.
My brother and I had the exact same situation as you in November last year. We had 8 days for NZ. We spent one and a half day going by bus to the Bay of Islands, North Island. As it is summer now I guess it must be much more fun. Warm water! Swim with dolphins!
After that we flew down to the South Island, Christchurch and rented a car. We drove down to Dunedin since my goal was to see albatrosses ot on the Otago Peninsula, which we did. FANTASTIC BIRDS!!!
After that we drove, Bluff, Invercargile, Te Anau, Milford Sound, Queenstown and back to Chrch in five days. It was completely OK. The thing is, I want to go back so bad that it hurts. I fell in love with a country!
Hope this will help in any way.
Best regards
