|
|
My wife and I are in the process of planning a trip to New Zealand. We would like to go during New Zealand's summer. We were told by a friend to avoid January, because all school age kids take their vacations. Is that true? Would February be the best month to visit?
Also, would one recommend reserving all lodging prior to travel in the summer?
In general, I guess what I'm asking...do New Zealand's National Parks and touristy areas get as crowded as some of the more popular National Parks in the United States?
Thanks!! |

February is still one of the busiest months for overseas travellers though. March - April are better months to travel IMO.
I have nether been to the States. But what I have heard Yellowstone, Grand Canyon etc are way busier. This also depends on what you are going to be doing in the National Parks. Places like the Pancake Rocks at Paparoa National Park can get very busy. But you may find yourself alone if you are camping along the Inland Pack Track in Paparoa National Park. Generally the small walks to waterfalls, lookouts etc on the National Parks are quite busy, at a guess about 10 - 20 people at one time, depends if there is a tour bus stopped.
You will be best to book accommodation in the busy spots Queenstown, Rotorua, Mt Cook, Paihia etc. Depends on what sort of accommodation you will be using though, backpacker hostels are usually full in Christchurch during February and March. |
