Hi fellow trampers
I have been told that leather boots, which I normally wear for hiking in Europe, are not the best for tramping in NZ.
I have heard that, due to the wet and frequent river-crossing, the leather boots get too heavy and take too long to dry.
I personally do not like Gore-tex, as my feet have always gotten wet in the end anyway and the membrane prolongs the drying process.
Do you know of some sturdy fast-drying boots, that would be perfect?
I am a woman with small-ish feet.

I always wear leather boots. If they are good enough for Sir Edmund Hillary when he climbed everest then they are good enough for me. People are getting to soft I think. Leather boots are more sturdy hence better for the ankles that synthetics and that is more important IMO.
But if you do want to by a pair, hi-tec make quite good light weight tramping boots at reasonable prices
I think these are my leather boots

a few things from what i've heard of the south island,
are that it's rocky (and synthetics seem to slice alot easier from experience)
and there are lots of rivers to cross, which means you're going to get water in your boots anyway,
and leather is better under those conditions...
feel free to correct me.
by the way, nice boots there Garry, la sportiva? |
