Hi, I'm considering a trip to NZ from June through October, and I was wondering if anyone could give my some suggestions on which towns to check out if I'm looking for easy going life by the beach, I'd like to stay away from the bigger cities

--Thanks

Hi tencer, In the North Island you can't go past Mt Maunganui (pop ~25000) and Tauranga (pop ~104000) in the Bay of Plenty ( http://www.tauranga.co.nz/ ), The Coromandel ( http://www.thecoromandel.com ) this area has heaps of little/meduim sized towns scattered around the coastline, Northland and the Bay of Islands ( http://www.northland.org.nz ) again heaps of little towns, Gisborne and Eastland ( http://www.gisbornenz.com/ ). In the South Island Nelson (city pop of ~44000) http://www.nelsonnz.com/, The Catlins plenty of nice beaches if the weather is fine, Dunedin although it is a fairly large city in NZ standards (pop 120000) it is fairly layed back and has nice surfing beaches.
