Heard alot of people raving about Leki's and other hiking/tramping poles, and alot of sales pitches too...

Does anybody use them?
Are they really worth the money?

Cheers,
Russell, Aust.

I got some Leki' as a gift last year and personally I think they area waist of time, but yeah some people swear buy them. If you have dodgy knees I could see they would be handy going down hills. But they are aimed at gear junkies that need to have everything IMO.. just glamorised tree branches.

yeah, my brother laughed at me when i mentioned them...
He thinks the best bit about hiking is finding a good walking stick on the way,
and using it to smash stuff 'till you find a better one Very Happy

I always use a couple of hiking poles, but no need to buy expensive Leki's when you can pick up a cheap pair that will do the same thing. If you're carrying a heavy pack then poles help a lot, helping you to power up hills and taking strain off the knees if you use them properly.

I say give them a try and see what you think. You never know, - they might keep those knees going for a few extra years!
