Hello,

i have the understanding that crossing any maori land
requires permission as a cultural courtesy...

i'm wondering how you know when you are crossing such land
if you're walking off roads and not going by a particular plan
i plan to spend a lot of my time over there just wandering down beaches
and through national parks etc. and understandably don't want to offend...

anyone had experience dealing with this???

Cheers,
Trussell

The National Parks are owned by the crown so anyone can walk where they please the same with the foreshore ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Zealand_foreshore_and_seabed_controversy ). But yeah if you see a sign ask permission, the vast majority of Maori will have no problems with you passing through. The same with farmers, just ask.
