Hi,

Got a problem that I wish you guys can help me with. You all seem knowledgeable - and I can't sleep through this Christmas. I'd really appreciate any assistance you can give.

My consultant, who is an old hat at this, sent my EOI straight to NZ last week of November. My credit card signified that the NZIS billed me Dec. 12. The last selection date for the old 100 passmark point was Dec. 21. Everyone, including my consultant, told me I had nothing to worry about because I rated 120 points in my EOI.

Still, siguristo ako. So on Dec. 22, I called up the NZIS branch at Wellington. The nice lady at the other end of the phone asked me all sorts of questions (mother's maiden name, birthdate, etc.) to confirm that it was me at the other end of the point. She also corrected me by saying that I got 130 points, not 120.

Now here's where my mind went blank. She said that - and if my memory is accurate, and right now I can't vouch for it - that I filled up my application form wrongly, and that a letter was sent to me Dec. 13 asking that I rectify the error.

Naturally, I talked to my consultant after this. He said that he had double-checked my EOI and he himself was wondering what went wrong. So I called up the NZIS again, asking if I had to reapply - because if I reapply, I definitely would not make it in the new passmark category by February which is 140 already! The nice lady at the phone (new lady) said just to wait. She also gave me a code number.

Naturally, I've been in jitters since. Because, if I have to reapply, that means I won't make it under the new 140 passmark. My consultant tells me: 1) I shouldn't be worried because he thinks it's not outright rejection, maybe just a clarification; 2) if I were rejected, they would have told me so; 3) the fact that NZIS said I got 130 means I made it; 4) this is supported by the fact that NZIS gave me another number.

Right now, I don't know what to believe. I've already primed myself to call NZIS again on January 4 when they re-open for the new year. Maybe then, I'll know.

What do you guys think? Is my consultant right or wrong? If they did reject me, would NZIS have told me so, outright? Will I have to re-apply and therefore risk rejection under the new 140 passmark?

PLEASE! Could use your input.

THANKS.

Trekker,

If the NZIS told you that they sent you a letter last Dec 13 (due to volume of Christmas mail), most likely, your letter is still in transit. Usually, the visa officer would not say anything verbally, they want it written in blank and white or if not, probably via email. Hence, I know your dilemna considering that she had mentioned that you gained 130 points. At the moment, re-applying is the last thing you wanted to do since it would mean that you will have to meet the 140 passmark. The best thing to do is just wait and see! If you know who your visa officer is, you can email him directly, as well. If he has some clarification, he may be able to send via email the letter he sent you last Dec 13. (I had that experience when I asked him about my status and my visa officer sent me a copy of the letter via email that she sent via post).

Dont do anything that might jeopardize your application. Wink

Hi, Marivic

Thanks for the reply.

I know what you're saying about not jeopardizing my application - and I have been waiting for that letter. It's just been a week of agony, that's all. I really, really hope I don't have to re-apply.

Question lang: how long does a snail mail envelope take to reach a Manila address from NZIS, Wellington? That way, I can help track the time.

Thanks!
