I guess everybody must have been aware that there have been changes in the immigration policies. How it will affect each one of us is still dependent on our respective circumstances. But one thing for sure, it appears that the EOI selection process has been quite different. It states on the NZIS website that the last selection under the "old" mechanism is Dec 21. First selection under the new scheme will be on Feb 1, 2006, hence, there will be no EOI selection for almost a month. Maybe this is their transition period (internally). We do hope that though there are changes, most of us can still make it after all, we do have skills and education! I guess we earned the right to be there, di ba? Good luck to all of us! Merry Christmas, too! |

Hi.
Got this info from Protea Pacific Skilled Migrant Category Newsflash. Want to share so everyone could remake his plans.
********************
As we recently speculated the Government may make significant changes to the Skilled Migrant category. They have. Today.
If you have not yet filed an EOI this will change the process for you. If you have filed an EOI it may also change things for you if you are not in New Zealand and you don't score 100- 105 points.
The focus is clearly going on selecting those applicants with job offers and priority will not be given to those without.
This information is still only two hours old and as we learn more it will be posted on our website or you will be alerted by these news flashes.
All two days before Christmas. You have to love the timing.....
"Re: December 2005 Skilled Migrant Category changes
The changes impact upon the following key areas of immigration policy:
· The selection of Expression of Interest from the Pool.
· The period between the last selection of EOIs under the "old" system, and the first selection under the new system.
· The period that Expressions of Interest remain in the Pool.
· The work to residence deferral period.
· The prioritisation of places in the New Zealand Immigration Programme.
1. Change to the selection mechanism
a. Selections from the Pool after 21 December 2005 are made in the following manner:
i Expressions of Interest (EOIs) that have total points of 140 or more are selected automatically from the Pool;
ii EOIs that have total points of 100 or more but less than 140, and include points for offers of skilled employment or current skilled employment in New Zealand, are selected (according to their points ranking) in sufficient numbers to meet the requirements of the Skilled/Business Stream of the New Zealand Immigration Programme (NZIP) at the time of that selection (subject to any adjustment to the number or distribution of places in the NZIP determined by the Government).
b. If, following the selection process set out at (a) above, further places are available in the Skilled/Business Stream of the NZIP at the time of that selection (subject to any adjustment to the number or distribution of places in the NZIP determined by the Government), additional EOIs may be selected from the Pool on the basis of criteria set from time to time by the Minister of Immigration, having regard to the objectives of the Skilled Migrant Category.
2. Break in selections
The changes take effect on 21 December 2005. However, there will be no selection of EOIs from the Pool between 22 December and 31 January 2006. The last selection under the "old" selection mechanism will be on 21 December. The first selection under the "new" selection mechanism will be on 1 February 2006.
3. Change to period that EOIs remain in the Pool
There is an increase in the period that EOIs remain in the Pool, from three months to six months.
4. Change to work to residence deferral period
The work to residence deferral period has been reduced from two years to six months. A provision has also been included to allow for the grant of a further work permit for a maximum additional period of three months, where the principal applicant has an offer of skilled employment but requires a further work permit to meet the three month requirement. This applies to applications for residence under the SMC received on or after 21 December 2005.
The two-year period still applies to applications received before 21 December 2005.
5. Some selected EOIs will not be invited to apply
EOIs that were selected from the Pool on or before 21 December 2005 will not result in an Invitation to Apply if:
a. on 21 December 2005 an invitation to apply for residence has not been issued; and
b. the Expression of Interest does not include a claim for points for an offer of skilled employment in New Zealand or current skilled employment in New Zealand; and
c. there is a claim for a total of 100 or 105 points;
unless the person expressing interest in that EOI is in New Zealand on 21 December 2005.
People affected by this provision may submit a further Expression of Interest to the Pool up to and including 21 June 2006 and no fee will be payable for this Expression of Interest.
6. Additional NZIP places for SMC and Pacific residuals
The Government is reprioritising places from the Family Category to SMC and the Pacific residuals and creating additional NZIP places for SMC and the Pacific residuals. There will be a total of 5,500 places available of which 4,500 will be allocated to SMC and 1,000 to the Pacific residuals."
As this affects individual clients we will be in touch as soon as we can.
Of particular note to those who have filed EOIs and been selected is Section 5 above. Note however it only applies to those who have had EOIs selected on or before 21 December who are claiming 100- 105 points. And only to those not in NZ on that date. |

Hi Lorna,
What I did was to take IELTS first before filing my EOI. The IELTS details are needed in the EOI, that's why.

Hi, Lorna! Actually, for the IELTS part, if you dont have one, then you can take the other option which is to provide English proficiency from school and even from your employers (although, you will not be able to fill up this part since the form asks you to fill in your details like date of examination, band score, etc. It is understood that if you do not have entries for this, then, you did not take the IELTS. |
