The volcano was there about 1800 years ago. I don't think cameras were around then.

For those that don't know, Lake Taupo was created by a massive volcano, it is believed to have been one of the biggest eruptions in the world and there are recordings in china stating "sun on rising was as red as blood and lacking light".

iam to retire in taupo by the lake building a shack on the edge for me and my husband to be (Chris Brown) do you know him.i love Taupo i hat all of the rest of nz!!! esp kewikewi thank u very much bubye

This is an awesome picture of the lake,I used to live here and now live in the u.k. It makes me v.homesick!!!
