Common Name: Royal Northern Albatross
Latin Name: Diomedea sanfordi
Characteristics: 115 cm, worlds largest flying bird with a wingspan of 3 metres.
Distribution: Common in the seas around the subantartic islands. In New Zealand they nest at Taiaroa Heads on the Otago Peninsula (Dunedin) which is the only mainland colony in the world.
