nice facilities such as travel service, laundry and internet, but very noisy due to bar in building. no lockers or place to put your things at all in rooms!

Probably one of the finest hostels in the world. It's clean, the staff are all beautiful and helpful. Fantastic toilet/shower facilities. The beds are comfortable. The bar is awesome. The food great. In fact I enjoyed it so much I ended up working for the backpackers! First time I was there I was a tout/housekeeper. Second time just a housekeeper. The bonus of being in Fort street is your within walking distance of the shops, cinemas, bars, clubs, Tepid Baths, The Control room and of course the redlight district. What more can a person want for christs sake!! If NZ immigration decide to let me in for a third time I'm coming straight back!

Stayed here in June 03. It was a bit of a shock. Dirty room, and filthy sheets...and that was the ensuite. The next night we changed rooms to a 4 bed dorm with no windows. Not the best, but functional and air conditioning throughout. The Globe Bar was pretty cool there and we met some terrific people. Its really central too, with good security.

Hmm, booked a week in advance, got a room without windows(!). Noisy airconditioning 24 hours. Very plain, for those who need no sleep;-) BUT very good travelagency .

PETSEA - Ur response to this backpacker i would not hold against you HOWEVER, New Zealand shouldn't be judged otherwise. This backpacker was fine and comforting. 6/10 rating.

I believe all the above reviews are from their old site. They have now moved into another building.
