Kainga-ra is nestled amongst the bush-clad hills of Greymouth. This 4 star hostel was a Marist Brothers residence in the 1930s. The ex-Catholic building is full of character and ambiance. On the side of a steep hill and overlooking the sea, the hostel boasts fantastic views and you can even catch a glimpse of Mount Cook or the Hector Dolphins from the river mouth.
